Xii (Xii), Sunday, 14 December 2003 04:32 (twenty-two years ago)

well from my experience being drunk sometimes makes things awesome!

Sonny A. (Keiko), Sunday, 14 December 2003 04:37 (twenty-two years ago)

okay, i am not totally durunk yet, but i am stoned and a little bit tipsy. and i like music. but i like girls more.

ian johnsonnnn, Sunday, 14 December 2003 04:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I like girls, too, but nine beers certainly dulls my appreciation of them.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 14 December 2003 05:08 (twenty-two years ago)

ian, if i were stoned (and I wish i were), i would be saying "you stole the words exactly out of my mouth" right now

I'm listening to Different Class, and it sounds great!!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Sunday, 14 December 2003 06:12 (twenty-two years ago)

i listened to the hilary duff disc last night when drunk and it sounded great...you tell me.

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 14 December 2003 06:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Sometimes I get really drunk and end up downloading stuff that freaks me out in the morning--"Lucas With the Lid Off" wtf? But alcohol makes me appreciate stuff more like when it helped me get past all my stupid issues with Nightwish and realize that they're the greatest band ever.

adam (adam), Sunday, 14 December 2003 06:13 (twenty-two years ago)

adam check yr mail.

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 14 December 2003 06:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Sonny A. (Keiko), Sunday, 14 December 2003 06:42 (twenty-two years ago)

hey my real name is adam too

Really? Great!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Sunday, 14 December 2003 06:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Alcohol definitely enhances my listening. It takes edge off, increases both ego and id, drops defenses. When I'm a little tipsy (or, hell, rip-roaring pissed), that's the only time I'm still able to listen to music the way I did when I was 15. I think of Daniel Nester, arranging all his Queen albums in front of himself:

I would then stand in front of this, drinking a wine cooler, as if I were Noah in The Ten Commandments movie, congratulating myself, clasping my arms behind my back, as if this was my ark, my own creation; that I had, as if through my sheer accumulation and arrangement of these objects, some part in creating them.

Exactly.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 14 December 2003 06:50 (twenty-two years ago)

It can be good like if I'm at a party and someone puts some hip-hop on right before I leave and I say, hey, I like this.

Rockist Scientist, Sunday, 14 December 2003 07:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I am not a preconceptive kind of person.

Rockist Scientist, Sunday, 14 December 2003 07:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Musically.

Rockist Scientist, Sunday, 14 December 2003 07:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard some Lauryn Hill that I liked. I guess that makes me a racist.

Rockist Scientist, Sunday, 14 December 2003 08:21 (twenty-two years ago)

You're just itching for someone to call you a racist, aren't you? Not tonight.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 14 December 2003 08:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Not really. Just sick of Trife's "white people with black friends" type comments when anyone likes hip-hop that isn't adequately hardcore or whatnot.

Rockist Scientist, Sunday, 14 December 2003 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought that would be kind of obvious.

Rockist Scientist, Sunday, 14 December 2003 08:31 (twenty-two years ago)

alcohol for music you already love..pot for music you've never heard.

phunktion, Sunday, 14 December 2003 08:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I vote for sleep deprivation!

Nihilist Pop Star (mjt), Sunday, 14 December 2003 08:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes indeed! There's nothing that makes me cry faster than "Wouldn't It Be Nice" after having been awake for about 30 hours.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 14 December 2003 08:49 (twenty-two years ago)

(Never mind, I gather he hasn't been posting anymore. It's just that I only just looked at the Hey Ya thread for the first time today, but not sure why I would expect anyone to make that connection.)

Rockist Scientist, Sunday, 14 December 2003 08:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been listening to "By the Time I Get To Phoenix" for the last 16 minutes (drunk) and GOOD GOD it's so great!!

Sonny A. (Keiko), Sunday, 14 December 2003 09:06 (twenty-two years ago)

You guys get drunk awfully early.

Ian Johnson (orion), Sunday, 14 December 2003 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

alcohol tends to make me think that whatever i'm listening to is the BEST THING EVER, and if others don't agree/don't want to listen to my new favorite song over and over again i get quite cross.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 15 December 2003 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
alcohol for music you already love..pot for music you've never heard.

Listening to CD/record/whatever - Dull

Live - Enhance

Live - Enhance

If I drink enough before a show, heckling happens. (dud)

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Friday, 10 June 2005 20:44 (twenty years ago)

Sometimes, Matt, I find that coming home wasted and putting on records is THE BEST THING EVER. then I pass out in the armchair next to my stereo.

Ian John50n (orion), Friday, 10 June 2005 20:46 (twenty years ago)

I've mentioned this to several disinterested persons over the years, that the only two records that ever truly sounded BETTER to me whilst drunk were the first Black Crowes LP and the Pogues' Rum, Sodomy & The Lash. As far as loosening up, being more inclined to (attempt to) dance, sing along, use empty bottles in a percussive fashion, etc., liquor is absolutely ideal, no question. But for enhancing the actual auditory sensations or whatever, forget it. (That's what THC is for!) But I still drink beers steadily throughout concerts, regardless. (Makes standing in crowds bearable.)

Myonga Von Bottle (Myonga Von Bontee), Friday, 10 June 2005 21:17 (twenty years ago)

"When listening to music, does alcohol dull or enhance the experience?"

Yes.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 10 June 2005 21:59 (twenty years ago)

I like it. It's been enhacing the Flash soundtrack for the last couple of hours.

latebloomer: Pain Don't Hurt (latebloomer), Friday, 10 June 2005 22:03 (twenty years ago)

alcohol is best for the live show until you reach the point where the need to pee or sit down [or finding attractive people to spawn with] far outweighs the noises coming from the stage. with the right amount though, i can believe in the live show as a shared communal experience. how else can i explain enjoying polyphonic spree?

better yet, whats the best music for WHEN you're wasted? or when you're wasted with Ultragrrl?

jane (jane), Friday, 10 June 2005 22:05 (twenty years ago)

alcohol for music you already love..pot for music you've never heard.

thirded. or whatevereded.

oops (Oops), Friday, 10 June 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

omg i am stanking DRUNKS right now and cure's 'plainsong is playing and i feel rondewerful!

latebloomer: Pain Don't Hurt (latebloomer), Saturday, 11 June 2005 07:24 (twenty years ago)

Depends on:

- the music
- the alcohol
- the quantity of alcohol
- the volume of the music
- the circumstances.

I don't think pot is only good for music you've never heard. The best experience was when I was listening to Missy E while stoned. hmmmmmm. I love alcohol when I'm at a concert. Especially if the music very loud.

nathalie's post modern sleaze fest (stevie nixed), Saturday, 11 June 2005 08:23 (twenty years ago)

you're right, it's not *only* good for music you've never heard.

oops (Oops), Saturday, 11 June 2005 08:33 (twenty years ago)

I drunk a bottle of wine and now I'm listening to Wiley. Sounds great!

Timbraun, Saturday, 11 June 2005 12:01 (twenty years ago)

Most anything is good when smacked out on benzos with a bit of whiskey in your veinz.

I can't make a mix CD when I'm drunk anymore. :( I end up putting the mix on the iPod and listening to it the next morning and going, "What on earth? That doesn't work at all!"
