lauren (laurenp), Monday, 15 December 2003 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I was thinking of going but goddamn my head hurts way too bad to be able to deal with rock music tonight. I am bummed.

hstencil, Monday, 15 December 2003 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

aw i wish i could go but i can't!

geeta (geeta), Monday, 15 December 2003 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

LOOK FOR THE KIDS HUDDLED OUTSIDE SMOKING POT(OK?)

Ian Johnson (orion), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Follow-up thread: Could you hear Khanate loudly playing at Tonic last night from your apartment?

Ian Christe (Ian Christe), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 00:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Just for the record, I am deeply fucking jealous

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 10:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Pretty excellent. Khanate only played for a half hour, because Plotkin's equipment fried. Anyway, there's a big long review up on my blog (link upthread).

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Nice. Shame, half an hour is like one and a half Khanate songs in some cases. Could you actually tell what songs they were playing?

As for Orthrelm, I am very glad I saw them (in august supporting The Locust), but haven't tuned my critical faculties to confidently state whether they were "good" or not. Not sounding pompous, but it's very rare I experience that.

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i stood outside in the foyer for most of khanate because i had a birthday balloon for one of orthrelm and felt silly wading into the crowd with it. so, no comment. orthrelm were wicked good, so wicked good in fact that i could have happily listened to them for another hour. at least.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Orthrelm were totally amazing! Much much much better than the last time I saw them. No more endless/structureless noodling--six second riffs being repeated for minutes at a time, then precise changes. sick.

Ian Johnson (orion), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, that was the set they played at the Wrangler Brutes show. I like their new direction a lot.

hstencil, Tuesday, 16 December 2003 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck all you spoiled NYCers who didn't go to this. I get to see them when I'm home finally. UGH

Jon Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 05:24 (twenty-one years ago)

dude, my head hurt!!!!

hstencil, Wednesday, 17 December 2003 05:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I WENT TO SEE COSTES + PENGO INSTEAD OF STUDYING AND THEN WENT OUT CLUBBING (WITH DUMB COLLEGE SHITRAGS) AFTERWARDS WITH BLOOD, PISS AND FECES ON MY PANTS + SHOES!

Jon Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 05:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Costes was in town again? My head is hurting again just thinking about that.

hstencil, Wednesday, 17 December 2003 05:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Costes did a US tour which stopped in Rochester, NY (!)

I had a very good time.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 05:43 (twenty-one years ago)

you're in Rochester?

hstencil, Wednesday, 17 December 2003 05:46 (twenty-one years ago)

a few months ago, i saw costes being led* around a record store with the leader describing each of the boutique records to him using the most ridiculous french adjectives possible.

*costes' breath was so... fragrant... that i doubt he could stand on his own.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 05:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I am in Rochester.

COSTES put out a smell like no other band has ever done for me.

PS - Pengo rules; buy their shit.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 05:52 (twenty-one years ago)

are you gonna take the ferry?

hstencil, Wednesday, 17 December 2003 06:33 (twenty-one years ago)

The Toronto ferry. Oh yea that stink made the NYT huh.

Of course, I'm supposed to go up there to smoke cron all spring break.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 06:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Be sure to Loop! Loop, Loop, Loop. (ex machina), Friday, 21 May 2004 01:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I could have been seeing Khanate this weekend if I hadn't ran out of fucking money. This thread just made me sad(der)

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Friday, 21 May 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Khanate is pretty GREAT but Plotkin is a BIG DICK.

ddb, Friday, 21 May 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Khanate are playing in London this coming Monday. With NOXAGT. And I can't go...

NickB (NickB), Friday, 21 May 2004 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Khanate are playing in London? Where? I doubt I'll be able to go because I'm broke and my wife hates them so I won't be able to persuade her to let me spend the money...

mr scratch, Friday, 21 May 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

At the Underworld IIRC. Guapo are playing too.

NickB (NickB), Friday, 21 May 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha! I like that Earth record.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I had two copies!

Be sure to Loop! Loop, Loop, Loop. (ex machina), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't it difficult to stay awake through a whole Khanate set?
Dump them and convince Esoteric to come by your ways instead, eh eh? Eh! (assuming they're still any good, I haven't heard the last couple of albums)

Øystein H-O (Øystein H-O), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

It is hard to stay awake during a Khanate set if you're accustomed to sleeping in a 133dB environment, and like bedding down on airport runways. If that's the case, sweet dreams -- otherwise get earplugs for your earplugs.

Ian Christe (Ian Christe), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Khanate weren't THAT loud...

Ian Johnson (orion), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 23:40 (twenty-one years ago)
