depends entirely on the artist. i dont give a flying fuck if broadcast smile when they perform, but if junior senior aint giddy, well that's just plain wrong.

Although maybe not exactly 'having fun' or 'enjoying themselves', when I see people perform I usually personally get more from the show if they themselves are affected by the music they're playing. I don't expect an emotionally-involved Portishead to bear many similarities to an emotionally-involved Fishbone on stage. But I do expect them to behave as though the performance of their music means something to them.

it's the romantic artiste ideal: the less fun they have the more tortured they are the more torued they are the better art they will later create.
