help me construct another good floor-filling DJ set

That last party went down incredibly well, and everyone especially was into the Louvin Bros, Dolly Parton, Buck Owens, and the Handsome Family(!)

So now I need a little more assistance....I need guaranteed floor fillers, maybe a few well-known ones here and there, but mostly ones that won't be expected. So maybe one song per post, followed up by another song that would work well after it, and so on...I'm looking mostly for danceable indie, punk, techno, underground hip hop. I don't care, as long as it fills the floor.

I have a rough setlist here, but I'm not totally satisfied. I'm new at this DJ game.... = /

Bigod 20 - "The Bog" followed by Queen Latifah - "Dance For Me (Ultimatum Remix)"

'house of jealous lovers' seamlessly mixes into the dfa rmx of 'deceptacon' by le tigre. works a charm.

(if you like them two tunes I recommend getting ahold of the new Metric CD post-haste)

People are still talking about shit from that DFA comp? EESH.

I could probably toss something in here about how all DFA productions sound the same. But I'll let the obvious stand for itself.

- Something off the new Kinky record (give a listen to "Presidente" and "Airport Feelings").

- Something off of Stars -- "Heart."

- Basement Jaxx "Tonight."

- Prefuse 73 "Love You Bring."

- TV on the Radio "Satellite"

- The Rapture "Sister Savior" or "Killing."

- Definitely the song "As Serious As Your Life" by Four Tet.

Also, nothing gets the kids movin' like Michael Jackson "Rock With You."

All stuff I used recently. Good luck!

honest, you can mix PiL's careering into Duran Duran's planet earth (131) it's a killer
on the newer indie tip liars we come from NE of compton and le tigre hot topic (133) work well
and i think both parliament's flashlight and genius of love by tom tom club are around 101 or so - possibly too populist but they groove; plus you can gauge what's up by how many drinks are bought for you, cos the sauced'll dance to anything!

My number one floor saver is the Bar Kays Holy Ghost (Bad Ass extended mix) - runs about 8 and a half minutes - it's where the breakdown from MARRS Pump up the Volume comes from - plus it has funky wahhed up bass.

Any crowd that this song cannot bring back to the dance floor isn't worth saving

R. Kelly - Fiesta (remix) --> Grace Jones - Pull up to the bumper

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 08:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Rae & Christian: 'It Ain't Nothing Like'
Jimi Hendrix: 'Crosstown Traffic'

Jay Kid (Jay K), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

"Hi Ho Silver Lining"

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Play "United" by Throbbing Gristle.
Slowly mix "In C" into it (just start anywhere after the first 5 minutes) bringing the volume up to equal that of the TG tune.
Allow "United" to end, let "In C" play for 15-20 seconds, then cue something, hell anything, off the King Tubby vs. Scientist album, and voila! -- It's pretentious as fuck but it sounds really good.

Gear,
I'm curious to know where you are dj'ing - who's the audience, what venue - because I've been clubbin' and dj'ing here in NYC for years, and have never seen the floor filled by this type of music. I would probably get shot if I played Dolly Parton for a typical NYC crowd!

house parties with various themes....last one was held at a cabin with a raging campfire, just outside L.A. They demanded country music and the people loved it!
