Which acts haven't made any albums really worth owning, but have put out GREAT best ofs/greatest hits?

Pedants might furiously cite that this as a singles compilation and not an official "best of...", but it still kicks a giant platter of ass in either category.

As far as legitimate Best Ofs go,....if I can't choose the above, I'd go with...

Except "Entertainment!" is a great album. And "Solid Gold" and "Songs of the Free" are real good ones.

Re: Singles Going Steady - this is a *really* geeky question, but I wondered what that thing is on the floor in front of Pete Shelley on the cover photo. Looks like one of the Residents has lost a contact lens or something. Anyone know what it is? Part of the drum perhaps?

"Another Music In a Different Kitchen" is too good for Buzzcocks to deserve a mention here.

I'd say few post-1967 acts have lasted long enough to fill a decent "Best Of" without also putting out at least a few good albums. Personally, other than 60s Motown which I have already mentioned, I would say Buddy Holly and Sam Cooke are the most obvious choices here. Neither ever made a good album, but "Best Ofs" by both would belong in most collectors' record collections.
