Juan Atkins:Timeless

Has anyone else heard this yet? I was listening to the radio today at work and out of nowhere comes this mix of oldschool Detroit classics with amazing track selection and flow. Probably the best mix of older Detroit material I have ever heard. I don't care how broke you are, even if you have to pawn your grandma's dentures, do so immediately because it is that good.

I believe it is out on Metroplex and is available through Submerge.

i was thinking earlier today that i wished somebody would recommend me some older detroit techno tracks! nihilist, you are a lovable man!!!!!!

No problem, but seriously this mix is like Live At The Liquid Room good. I was just listening to the radio thinking that this was just some local jock on 90.9fm just banging through an oldschool detroit set. It completely blew my mind to be hearing wall to wall classics on the radio in the middle of the afternoon. I called four times to find out who was mixing, and finally they picked up the phone and told me it was a mix cd after it was over.

I know I am totally a blow hard Detroit techno fan and people don't take me that seriously, but I cannot recommend this mix highly enough. If I have to jump up and down and light shit on fire I dont care, this is that good! I have only heard a couple mixes that were better and one was a live radio set by DJ Polo (who is my favorite detroit radio mix jock) on WJLB and the other was by DJ Munk in a little downtown bar called Foran's in 2000. Munk's set was one of the top five best I have ever heard and he played it for me and the two people who worked there.

Anyway enough rambling; don't sleep on this one because this is the way those records were supposed to be heard. The track selection, the mixing, and the track sequencing are flawless. I am a whiny little bitch when it comes to dance music and I hate everything, and this has me totally excited.

Sounds great, hope I can find it, I've wanted a good detroit techno mix for ages anyway.

apparantly the classic Relics comp has finally been repressed again too (shame i forked out so much cash for an original copy).

i think vinylunderground.co.uk have copies.

I've wanted a good detroit techno mix for ages anyway.

you might want to check out Nocturbulous Behavior, probably works as a harder companion piece to the Timeless mix (which I will be getting ASAP)...loads of Suburban Knight classics with a bunch of U.R./Red Planet tracks thrown in.

i got this a few months ago and was a bit disappointed. it seemed for a while that submerge was backing off from glittering, dreamy sublime techno and moving into heavier, more drexciya-influenced breakbeat/electro territory and hearing this mix cemented that impression for me. that said "celestial highways" and "techno city 95" are about the most sublime techno i've ever heard and i don't think you can hear them on cd anywhere else.

when i reach for a detroit mix my first instinct is usually the Juan Atkins Mastermix that came out on waxtrax and (in slightly expanded form) metroplex. but yeah, juan's the don and i think i'd better give this mix a relisten...

Sonny, if you can get hold of the '98 Underground Resistance release (effectively a compilation), 'Interstellar Fugitives', you won't be disappointed either. It's rammed full of dark, dark industrial electro from people like Drexciya, Rolando etc - with pitch shifted vocals and lots of the madder side of Mad Mike. There is that juxtaposition of passion and the sly sense of humour too, they all have it.

loving this mix lately - and also the Infiniti Collection. just listened to all 9.50 of 'Think Quick' and feeling hypnotizzzzed

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Monday, 26 July 2004 08:56 (twenty-one years ago)

"think quick" is like being jettisoned from the docking bay into vacuum and floating through a space nebula with the ice crystals. maurizio co-produced it, right??

i am also a big fan of "game one". the infiniti collection might be my favorite disc of atkins'.

vahid (vahid), Monday, 26 July 2004 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i need to go to discogs and try and ID this Infiniti track i don't know the name of - it's not on the Collection

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Monday, 26 July 2004 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I still say Infiniti's Skynet is a mostly great and underrated record.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Monday, 26 July 2004 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm thinking of buying it now

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Monday, 26 July 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)
