first actually good west coast anthem in a long time, i think (although I have a pretty strong east coast bias). my friend who pointed out to me how good this track is also made a good point: when they first came out, it was Cube and 2 other guys, but now they have more of an equal billing. also, I like the way they trade off, each taking turns doing half a verse. seems like a good formula for a posse cut.

WC's verses totally make this track, though.

also the offbeat organ riff is very reminiscent of Beanie Sigel's "The Truth", but I like this one better.

So is it this "east coast bias" that allows you to like Cex? ;)

This is a great track, though "I'm Fly" by Nate, Snoop, & Warren G AKA "the LAST" good west coast anthem was also excellent and that was only released a few months ago.

no, that's a Baltimore bias, which is not quite the same thing. I guess repping Cex is going to be my eternal cred-killer here, isn't it?

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I really like "Rappers In Love." I laughed my ass off.

Well...don't get me wrong, you're on point with pretty much everything else!

Besides, ILM cred? Who needs it?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, my standing here doesn't exactly keep me up at night, but it is annoying when someone (for example: YOU) comes into my thread and throws that in my face. it's all good, though! I'll monitor your posts closely for something to ridicule (insert Ned Raggett winkyface here).

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh man, you won't have to look far!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Pus I actually used the winkyface! So you're not allowed to take it so hard!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 18 December 2003 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, I know. I keed, I keed!

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 18 December 2003 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Al, are you from Baltimore?

Re: "I Keed" - I'm conflicted on this song as I know I'm supposed to think it's clever (or, make that the video) but it always gets on my nerves. As soon as it comes on MTV, I change the channel.

"Poopimation" is the creepiest thing ever.

nate detritus (natedetritus), Thursday, 18 December 2003 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, Raymond. are you?

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 18 December 2003 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Baltimore County...

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Thursday, 18 December 2003 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

well, to be fair, I currently reside in the county myself (Cockeysville to be exact).

'Rappers in love' is fun, but the album in general is v. uninspiring, i think. I mean, what's with that post-9/11 angst pervading the whole thing? It's too late, folks! A lot of other people already cashed in on that! Also, a lot of the tracks are transparent to say the least. Come to think of it, it is also really hard to believe Cube's gangsta posin'. As we all know by know by now, he is a pretty brainy fellow with an averagely promising actor's career ahead of him. So there.

Jay Kid (Jay K), Thursday, 18 December 2003 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

funny, I just now realized that I recognize your name from the City Paper, Raymond.

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 18 December 2003 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

eyyyy, I was just gonna start a thread on this! Great track, yeah. Though I briefly had the beat mixed up with the one from "Stunt 101" or whatever that horrible G-Unit song is. also Keith David!!!

btw is the album out yet? if so, is it doing well? i'm curious if their "cranky OG" schtick is all that popular. they kinda come off like old guys lecturing kids on how music (or bein gangsta, or ____) ain't the same anymore. i don't see how anyone can resist 'RAP SUMO' though

Adrian (Adrian Langston), Thursday, 18 December 2003 23:53 (twenty-one years ago)

four years pass...

When we come through they run and duck/ We still right here, so what the fuck?
