"She's Electric". Is it the top of the arc of musical greatness? Will we ever see the like of it again?

No.
and
Maybe.

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 19 December 2003 09:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Well it's pretty good, but I think yr overstating the case a little really

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 19 December 2003 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a joke, right?

Kate Jane Connolly (fixitgirl), Friday, 19 December 2003 10:12 (twenty-one years ago)

BANG!
Nick Southall will no longer be posting as his head has combusted.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 19 December 2003 10:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm. I should probably have another listen to my well-loved copy of "What's the Story" and check.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 19 December 2003 10:26 (twenty-one years ago)

it's okay, apart from

I'll be you and you'll be me, there's lots and lots for us to see...

which i think even Noel himself has admitted was an exceedingly naff line

stevem (blueski), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:01 (twenty-one years ago)

nicked from some kids TV prog, legendarily...

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

pitiful - i think i'll shoot myself too,

jed (jed_e_3), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahahaha THAT'S a poor Noel line?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw Craig Charles sing a bit of it on a talk show. That was cool.

Jole, Friday, 19 December 2003 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

the song reduces me to a quivering bag of plasma

dave q, Friday, 19 December 2003 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a pretty great record.

harveyw (harveyw), Friday, 19 December 2003 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i mean why bother quoting that terrible line when you could have quoted this one:

she's got a sister
and god only knows how ive missed her
and on the palm of her hand theres a blister
and i need more time.

FUCKS SAKE!

jed (jed_e_3), Friday, 19 December 2003 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

please tell me that isn't a real lyric. If it is, yuo shd post it on the 'cobain wasn't a great lyricist thrad' "Yes, but compared to this!!!, though!!"

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 19 December 2003 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean, it's even worse than:

Please don't put your life in the hand
Of a rock'n'roll band

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 19 December 2003 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

No, that one is OK...

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 19 December 2003 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

or 'slowly rolling down the hall/ faster than a cannonball"

yes pash, its real!

jed (jed_e_3), Friday, 19 December 2003 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

"she's got a cousin
In fact she's got bout a dozen
she's got one in the oven
but it's nothing to do with me"

spot the rhyme...

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 19 December 2003 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha

'Hey Now' has better lyrics

stevem (blueski), Friday, 19 December 2003 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

a-rinky-dinky-dink. this is a good song. nice steal from "..a little help from my friends..." at the end. good vocal from liam. i give it "8".

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 19 December 2003 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

this reminds me of dear ol' andy paltridge. wonder what happened to him?

x-post.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 19 December 2003 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

It rips off Funkadelic's 'No Compute'.

Rick Astley Fan, Friday, 19 December 2003 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd always assumed everyone was in 'agreeance' with me about this being the one single dud on an otherwise good album. It's still not altogethr terrible, of course, but it seems so superfluous (and downright dumb) in context.

roger adultery, Friday, 19 December 2003 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

*uh-chhem*

seems people are not honoring the "She's electric" fire...

Jole, Friday, 19 December 2003 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i always remember this being the song that confirmed that oasis were the biggest band ever, blahblahblah, cause even though it wasn't a single (at the time anyway, dunno if it ever was released) it was all over the radio, cause the stations needed more oasis and couldn't wait until they released something new,so they started playing mediocre album tracks and noone minded...

robin (robin), Friday, 19 December 2003 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

a classic. i love it. always have, always will.
chorus tune ripped off from 'you and me'
(as featured on bbc tv 1977/8/9 era),
which is another reason i love it.

"aliiiice"*

* you and me joke for the 1 person who gets it.

piscesboy, Friday, 19 December 2003 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

'Hey Now' is the runt of the 'What's The Story' litter, no question...

"The first thing I saw
As I walked through the door
Was a sign on the wall that read
It said you might never know
That I want you to know
What is written inside of your head "

That bit that goes, "a sign of the wall that read/It said... " bugs the tits off me. He's just crowbarred the meaningless "that read" bit in there to make it rhyme.

laticsmon (laticsmon), Friday, 19 December 2003 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Plus that's the vaguest sign on a door ever...

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 19 December 2003 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

see now i have ranted about that exact verse on the 'worst lyrics ever' thread. it truly is appaling that isnt it ? like noel hadn't even rehearsed it and just said to liam 'say this' and they did it once through. it so doesnt make any sense and for all its wordy-mouthfulness conveys nothing. YET in true oasis peak-period style, it's a belting tune, and just around the very next corner is a corker of a line right next to the useless ones : 'and as i fell from the sky, i asked myself 'why can i never let anyone in' ?.

piscesboy, Friday, 19 December 2003 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

oasis is the epitome of vague

Jay Kid (Jay K), Friday, 19 December 2003 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

no, wait, of bollocks, rather

Jay Kid (Jay K), Friday, 19 December 2003 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

From "Some Might Say":

"The sink is full of fishes
She's got dirty dishes on the brain"

Trying to think about that one hurts my head. It really annoys me.

C-Man (C-Man), Friday, 19 December 2003 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

(editor's note: pop music is supposed to be stupid, fun, and catchy. She's Electric gets passing marks in all three catagories, therefore it is grebt. also u r all gay and hate fun.)

Nihilist Pop Star (mjt), Friday, 19 December 2003 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

oasis were forgiven, though, at the time. and it kinda strikes me: everybody loves the white stripes right now - are we actually overlooking the fact that many of their lyrics are almost equally bollocks, too?

Jay Kid (Jay K), Friday, 19 December 2003 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

This thread is making me like Oasis.

Ferrrrrrg (Ferg), Friday, 19 December 2003 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

but not She'S Electric.

Ferrrrrrg (Ferg), Friday, 19 December 2003 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Was "She's Electric" the song that's a ripoff of "20th Century Boy"? Or is that something else?

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Friday, 19 December 2003 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Not as great as "Don't Touch Me (I'm Electric)"...
