So I carelessly clicked through a link on MSN today that said The year's best music DVDs and found myself staring at the new Talking Heads box set and a DVD by Can. Apart from the WTF factor of scrolling down and seeing Sun Ra on a Microsoft-sponsored site, it was I was also pleased to note that it was our pal Sasha Frere-Jones.

So what else would you have included in YOUR list? And what I'd give to see the reaction of someone who got one of these items from some grandma or parent who was really clueless about what was popular these days and just handed their 12-year old relative the Can DVD because they saw it on a big website....

Sasha's ruling the roost at Slate. There's another thread on his Slate the year-in-music discussion with Rob Sheffield and Keith harris.

four months pass...
The new New Yorker's list of contributors, which in the past has listed SF-J as "a New York writer and musician," today lists him as "the magazine's pop music critic."

Does this mean he replaced A Certain Someone?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 23:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Thank you, my question was answered. Now, should I break out the champagne?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought champagne went flat after three years

Sometimes you need to let things age.
