i would but i've sort of got that never-buy-mixmag thing going on.

It's all a bit random isn't it!

I could write 400 and similarly some people would love some and hate others and others would love or hate totally different ones.

There are a few I hate and a few I love, and a few I can't imagine Mixmag people liking.

Also the Sumo Bass mix of Agent Sumo's Why is better than that mix.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

oh wow! fantastic, thanks very much n!

piscesboy, Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

#9!!!!

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Ronan, did you expect science to be employed?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

94. BT - 'Remember The Day' (Mood II Swing Remix)
SO OTM

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

N, yes, I expected science to be dropped too.

That Nuyorican Soul track may be one of the worst songs ever.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

i get the feeling it was compiled in the same way the Freaky Trigger Top 100 Films was - i.e. in a pub with everyone just nominating the first thing that came into their heads (everyone holding back the big guns until the end but then forgetting them!)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i love 'I Am The Black Gold Of The Sun' but MAW added nothing to the original and nor did 4 Hero on the remix really

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

93. Ace Of Base - 'Living In Danger'

?!?! do they mean the Van Helden mix? even this is mediocre tho

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry I am likely to be a complete arse on this thread

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

but it's with that proviso that I say

87. Missy Elliott - '4 My People' (Basement Jaxx Mix)

Why would anyone download something they've heard ten thousand times?

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

it's generally a reasonably good list - i guess the problem is they're trying to cater for younger readers who may or may not have heard 'I Feel Love' or 'Blue Monday' yet but that seems a bit absurd to me (how young would you have to be??)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Ronan i think you should do your own top 100 (seriously)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i still haven't heard 'Cowpander' - i can only guess how it sounds

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Give me an hour or so.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i'll give you a month and i want a paragraph on each track ;)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 26 February 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

They got all their singles reviewers to come up with stuff and I reckon the rest was done in 'lets just ask everyone in the office what they think way'. Not scientific. Only one of those came from their electro reviewer.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 26 February 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Tiesto?

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 26 February 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, I remember someone doing something similar ages ago, but they would have held the article back for ages if it was his list. What's the by-line? M!ke Burgess?

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 26 February 2004 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

who knew the Mixmag office cleaning lady was so big on contemporary Dutch trance-lite?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 26 February 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

So, Steve, how does it feel to be better than "Blue Monday"?

Nick H (Nick H), Thursday, 26 February 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I think they could have made it better by having 100 good tracks that you probably do actually have to download in order to find (which a lot of those are I'm sure) i.e. not ones you can get on an album for a fiver in the HMV sale.

Still it's all grist to the soulseek mill. One day we will all have heard everything and will form a cosmic Uni-Mind, hurrah!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Cosmic Uni-Mind=best band name EVAH!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

21. Outkast - Ghetto Musick (Benny Benassi Remix) (great! no prizes for guessing what it sounds like though)

Tiesto?

Actually, "Sparkles" is an older track that might indeed be his best work to date.

Siegbran (eofor), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

41. LFO Vs Dizzee Rascal - 'Freak Up Look Sharp'

My Dizzee/Vitalic mashup was better...< / moping in da corner>

Siegbran (eofor), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

haven't heard a lot of these. and i don't think it's meant to be in any real order is it ('Daft Minute Man' isn't actually as tight as it could be, and Erol's 'Love Cats' one is better still)?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

re : age of readers. remember that they had a cover headline '20 things to do before you're 2o' a year ago!
20!!

piscesboy, Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

heh, please paste that list as well so i can sink into an abyss of despair

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 26 February 2004 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Urgh. Their lists of the 50 most influential records of all time and the 100 greatest dance songs of all time were both MUCH MUCH cooler.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Thursday, 26 February 2004 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i still haven't heard 'Cowpander' - i can only guess how it sounds

It's nice 'n all, but nothing revolutionary. It's a slight re-edit of the original Xpander (some cut/paste work with the intro & outro to make it more easily mixable) with only the "I'm invisible" vocal added a few times, none of the "musical" bits from Cowgirl.

Siegbran (eofor), Thursday, 26 February 2004 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

steve are you spec?

mullygrubber (gaz), Thursday, 26 February 2004 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw this article. The randomness is due to the entries belonging to different categories - if I recall there was one for classics, one for "hot stuff" (or something like that), one for obscurities etc. That's why the list is all over the place - it's trying to be all things for all people.

The list felt a bit Muzik-ish to me (Muzik-wannabe actually) - maybe Mixmag are trying to assimilate that market into their clubber milieu?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 26 February 2004 23:50 (twenty-one years ago)

well judging by the cover there's nothing in those birds-in-swimsuits/hard trance mix cd front splashes that even hint at an attempt to 'go muzik' more's the pity. the inside content i can't comment on. i stil actually pine for muzik.

piscesboy, Friday, 27 February 2004 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

My Dizzee/Vitalic mashup was better

OTM. It was my number 3 tune of 2003.

Nick H (Nick H), Friday, 27 February 2004 12:53 (twenty-one years ago)

six years pass...

Um someone plz make a torrent of this?

cathy opie & anthony (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 3 January 2011 02:36 (fourteen years ago)

The chemical bros remix of 'slow' is amazing actually.

Haven't heard it but "papa's got a brand new guinea" is a great title.

Tim F, Monday, 3 January 2011 10:55 (fourteen years ago)

just over *seven* years ago.. hellfire.
