The Humpty Dance.

Kim, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I just played Laurie Anderson's 'O Superman' and fuck, this was always a creepy tune but now it is right off the scale. It is ultra-creepy and ultra-powerful now. I think it's fair to say it can never be played again without evoking the WTC disaster. It's not just the 'here come the planes' line, it's also the answering machine trope, which brings to mind those doomed cellphone calls made from the tower. It's very moving. 'Hi. This is your mother. Are you there? Are you coming home?'

I don't know if I have the balls, but this is the song I really ought to do live.

Momus, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

As noted here.

There is frequently a discrepancy between what one feels one ought to do and what one, in the face of the various factors of reality, actually does. This is often for the best.

matthew m., Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Momus, your fans would expect nothing less. You have always tried to push the boundaries of sex/love/religion/passion/pain in your songs. It's over the top, expect repercussions but it would be evoke powerful emotions in your audience, double punk rock, I say.
