It seems that people mostly listen to music from the US of A, but what about the countries across th pond and around the globe? (not including England)
In this thread you can list your favorite bands (or artists) that are being overlooked because they havent been "discovered" in the USA yet...
I'm looking to expore some Japanese bands and simply any music from other cultures (doesnt have to be pop-ish) to expand my musical horizens.

Brazillian music is fairly widely available in America.

Etienne Daho, Marc Seberg, Lio, Alizee, lots french pop
Jpop and Kpop in general

most of the music listed on this page:

I'll think about it more and be more specific, but a lot of this music is not listened to by Americans because it is not released in America.

It's the USA that's "across the pond" for lots of ILM posters, me included. You're a foreigner too, sonny.

I like a lot of Spanish bands that are on labels like Elefant and Siesta, particularly La Buena Vida and the sadly defunct Le Mans.

12K just started a JPop lable called Happy...it seems promising. I've been really into all the people involved in Kitchen Motors, over in Iceland. Although the Motorlab compilations have some token superstar cameos (Mum tracks, guest appearances by Sigur Ros members), most of it is local experimental musicians. Very diverse, quality stuff. Pretty Difficult to find in the US, slightly more accessible in the UK.

Boy, I really like Hammersmith and Max Webster when I was a kid. They were from Canada. And, boy, let's not forget Carmen from Spain whose Fandingos in Space was the best Ziggy Stardust meets flamenco rock ever or at least until El Vez came along. And Mago de Oz, boy, wow, best Kansas imitation from Spain, evah. And Alogia, wow wow wow, boy, from Serbia, best imitation of Florida's Savatage-style heavy metal, evah. And wow wow wow, oh boy, Bathtub Shitter, Japanese grind death metal will silly lyrics, even sillier than any other Jap-lish band, evah. Bathtub Shitter would have to be my all time favorite foreign band, even more than Bow Wow and Baron Rojo.

William Rusere! He's from Zimbabwe, and he plays the mbira:

Even though Shona Folk Melodies is "validated" by a bunch of English IDMsters (like Plaid!), Rusere's own tracks are really great.
