What's the point of all of these 'album cover' threads?

I mean, who cares? It's all a bit trivial (even for ILM), isn't it?

roger adultery (roger adultery), Saturday, 20 December 2003 06:03 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'm not sure - it is trivial - but the excessive blood album cover thread justified a lot of trivial album cover threads

Jedmond, Saturday, 20 December 2003 06:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

I dunno. What's the point of anything on here, really. re: the umpteenth best of 2003 thread.

may pang (maypang), Saturday, 20 December 2003 06:25 (twenty-one years ago) link

everybody has a different definition of "trivial".

Where can I buy music online using paypal (besides Ebay)?

(hee hee)

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 20 December 2003 06:32 (twenty-one years ago) link

haha - scott, you funny man! Nah, you know, roger, those picture threads are kinda fun! Just another part of the wondrous multiplicity that is ILM.

Broheems (diamond), Saturday, 20 December 2003 06:40 (twenty-one years ago) link

yeah, the cover threads are grebt. not only fun and entertaining, but also handy for exposing visual cliche's that you didn't even realize were cliche's.

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 20 December 2003 06:41 (twenty-one years ago) link

Grrr Seward I'll get you for that one! Actually, in my defense, I was simply searching for information, but let's not split hairs. Jokes on me.

Hey dude i'm doing a gig with yr brother on the 27th at the knit, you should come, devendra banhart and samara from hall of fame are also playing. I'm sure nepotism can get you on the guest list!

roger adultery (roger adultery), Saturday, 20 December 2003 06:49 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'll try not to take this all too personally.

I think I simply got bored of all the Cover Connections threads and branched out into more specific trends. It should also be noted that i work two mind-deadening overnight shifts a week, and it's a great way to fill up downtime.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 20 December 2003 07:13 (twenty-one years ago) link

I think that the cover thread more often than not makes it as funny, interesting and clever culture-spotting. That's why I 'read' them, and that's why I do my best to contribute.

Jay Kid (Jay K), Saturday, 20 December 2003 13:46 (twenty-one years ago) link

i really like alex's threads. they are fun!

griffin doome, Saturday, 20 December 2003 13:47 (twenty-one years ago) link

I know this is only one opinion, but I must say that I think I've viewed every single covers connection thread because I enjoy them quite a bit. Very entertaining when sitting at work, especially if I've been reading through a bunch of other things for work. More entertaining to sit and skim a covers connections thread than read other threads.
In fact, Alex, please don't ever stop the covers connections threads. Very very entertaining, and your themes are great too.

Alex's cover connections threads rule.

I know! He had everyone on ILM write him a song.It does sound like fun. There would only be the slightest chance we could make it. cuz of our damn baby and all(such an attention hog. he's looking at me right now.he knows i'm writing about him) I would love to get into the city. Who knows? I will be seeing danbunny on jeezus's b-day, mebbe he will convince me.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 20 December 2003 16:53 (twenty-one years ago) link

A bit trivial for ilm?? What, more trivial than another POX thread!!?? I like 'em, and I think alex makes some good & funny choices, but I only look at them at work, b/c I have broadband here, and they are inevitably LONG d/ls

Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 20 December 2003 17:04 (twenty-one years ago) link

Please don't stop the covers threads, Alex.

And Roger - you're great n' everything, but surely you've started one or two trivial threads in yr time?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 20 December 2003 17:07 (twenty-one years ago) link

Yeah they're fine - Alex the one thing I would ask is when there's just an ordinary list thread not a covers one, to not just post the cover of something (or at least give the name as well).

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Saturday, 20 December 2003 17:08 (twenty-one years ago) link

I forgot to mention in my last post that Aja is also doing a great job at these threads as well.

I forgot to mention in my last post that Aja is also doing a great job at these threads as well.

Thanks, but Alex is doing a much better job. I think his are more fun.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 20 December 2003 17:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

if you're annoyed by them but click on the thread by accident (I'm not annoyed btw) I think you can switch the pics off on yr settings.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 20 December 2003 17:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

Don't misunderstand, this isn't an attack on Alex at all...in fact, i quite like Alex...and truthfully, I had no IDEA WHO was posting those 'cover connection' threads because i never open them. I just found them a bit overwhelming these past few days. But no matter, others seem to like them, so flame on...

roger adultery, Saturday, 20 December 2003 17:25 (twenty-one years ago) link

Overwhelmed by links you don't even click? Dude! Get out of the house. Drink a beer. Everything's gonna be okay.

Album Covers are fun!

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 20 December 2003 18:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

That was the most inane thing I have ever posted.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 20 December 2003 18:13 (twenty-one years ago) link

o not just post the cover of something (or at least give the name as well).

I am entirely guilty of this....and am now feeling the razor-sharp fangs of karmic retribution in my hide everytime Aja posts that oversized incarnation of Nirvana's Bleach. Still, I think the visual element rams home an emphasis (i.e. a picture paints a thousand words). I shall try to cut down. Apologies.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 20 December 2003 18:31 (twenty-one years ago) link

I *heart* Cover Connections. Long live Cover Connections.

Blood and sparkles (bloodandsparkles), Saturday, 20 December 2003 18:33 (twenty-one years ago) link

Don't apologize. I like the album cover threads. Do not cut back!

and am now feeling the razor-sharp fangs of karmic retribution in my hide everytime Aja posts that oversized incarnation of Nirvana's Bleach.

Sorry. Next time I'll put one that's around 315x300 pixles insted of 915x900.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 20 December 2003 18:36 (twenty-one years ago) link

i only read ILM for the pictures.

tod (tod), Saturday, 20 December 2003 20:13 (twenty-one years ago) link

Just got a new computer today, and i's OS X. I have no idea how to do even the simplest tasks like copying image locations, so you may not see any more cover threads from me for a while, as it turns out.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 20 December 2003 23:10 (twenty-one years ago) link

Alex, I think on that computer you can hold down the clicker on the image and it will give you a few options, like copy. And insted of ctrl for short cuts it's the button with the apple symbol. Apple v pastes things. I believe that's how it is on that computer.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 20 December 2003 23:17 (twenty-one years ago) link

Nah, it doesn't do that ("right clicking", in other words). Nothing comes up when i hold it down.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 20 December 2003 23:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

It's all about the CTRL key now.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 20 December 2003 23:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

You're welcome. See, this must be why the computer teacher asks ME to help everyone else with their computer related problems when she's busy. One time I had to help everyone for the time we were in class. I barely got any of my own work done.
