CD:UK says there is very little between the two at the moment, but Mad World is currently at no.2.

has anyone bought any of the singles? i find the whole xmas no.1 thing soo exciting!

lid, Saturday, 20 December 2003 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

id prefer mad world to be at no.1 and i like the verse of the bo selecta song.

lid, Saturday, 20 December 2003 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

"Mad World" (that version of, at any rate) is really starting to piss me off now. It's trying WAAAAAAAAAAAY too hard to be meaningful and has descended into maudlin parody for me now, though I do love how it works in Donnie Darko. Plus there's this whole idea of it somehow being about war now as well which is just nuts.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Saturday, 20 December 2003 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

they'd already had wars by 1982.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 20 December 2003 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the Mad World guy tries too hard to be Michael Stipe. The best Christmas song is Cheeky Christmas. I hope the Darkness will be number one, I hate it when worthy songs are number one at X-mas (Band Aid excluded).

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 20 December 2003 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes and they'd had chuild psychology too.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Saturday, 20 December 2003 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

seeing gary jules perform it on cd uk/totp was a bit of a disappointment cos he's all beefy and wears a flatcap. but the song is perfect for xmas: it sounds wintery and the melody is very very pretty and twinkly.

lid, Saturday, 20 December 2003 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

gary jules cause i love donnie darko. and it is an ace cover. and its the dark racehorse. i dig surprises not givens.

griffin doome, Saturday, 20 December 2003 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

The Darkness cos it's a good song. It was played in the pub last night - lots of people were clapping and swaying along - that's what I want a Christmas song to do.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Saturday, 20 December 2003 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw Justin and... his brother's parents on Anglia News the other day, talking about their son's achievement. They seem a nice enough bunch.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 20 December 2003 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

That donnie darko song is in the top 40? Hasn't that movie been out for a while? And is it Tears for Fears's version or Michael Andrews's?

adam michel (adam michel), Saturday, 20 December 2003 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

michael andrews.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 20 December 2003 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Not Michael Andrews...Gary Jules.

Apparently, it started getting radio play in the UK after all this time and the label decided to release a single.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Saturday, 20 December 2003 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

michael andrews & gary jules?

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 20 December 2003 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Now that is an incredible demonstration of how the charts operate.

adam michel (adam michel), Saturday, 20 December 2003 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Michael Andrews and Gary Jules - together at last.
Mad World was the best thing about Donnie bloody Darko but who hasn't had ENOUGH of that song now? It doesn't even have sleigh bells on or anything.
I'm glad there's been a resurgence in Christmas songs this year, but they're all disappointing. I suppose The Darkness would be my preferred choice, though I saw the video for the Love Actually song - Christmas is All Around or something - this morning with Bill Nighy who impressed me with his Jarvis-like twitchy dancing. That could be a late fave. For me, anyway.

David Merryweather (DavidM), Saturday, 20 December 2003 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm pulling for the Diff'rent Darkness cover of "I Believe In A Thing Called Love," but I don't even live in the UK. I guess it doesn't really matter.

poop > The Darkness

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Saturday, 20 December 2003 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish some label would reissue a single and push Tubeway Army's "Are 'Friends' Electric" to #1.

adam michel (adam michel), Saturday, 20 December 2003 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

''I think the Mad World guy tries too hard to be Michael Stipe.''

I want 'mad world' to be a xmas no1 bcz it isn't a xmas song but jel makes a very convincing arg for it being rub.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 20 December 2003 20:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish some label would reissue a single and push Tubeway Army's "Are 'Friends' Electric" to #1.
Richard X to thread!

None of the contenders are anywhere near "Sound Of The Underground".

Nick H (Nick H), Saturday, 20 December 2003 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

the germans were unfancied yet still got to the final of japan/korea 2002. y'all write off cliff at your peril.....

pete s, Saturday, 20 December 2003 23:58 (twenty-one years ago)

the video for "Santa's List" has the ultimate Daily Mail Family That Hasn't Actually Existed Since About 1975 in it - I watched it by chance with the sound turned down, because I'm too scared to listen to the song ...

robin carmody (robin carmody), Sunday, 21 December 2003 01:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm glad I've gotten to witness this xmas no.1 madness in person. I for one vote for "Mad World" by default. You have to understand that "Someone To Love" is one of my least favorite Queen hits.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 21 December 2003 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

it's mine?

michael andrews (Cozen), Sunday, 21 December 2003 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

'Mad World' has won it, apparently.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Sunday, 21 December 2003 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I heard "Mad World" for the first time today - FUCK ME ITS AWFUL. I also heard it 3 times and the Darkness 0 so James is probably right :(

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Sunday, 21 December 2003 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

(i swear i saw you in glasgow yesterday, tom!)

cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 21 December 2003 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

hooray! i believe in a thing called rcok again. mad world: shock outsider takes number one spot and has all cult afflications that i love; cover version, donnie darko and m.s. sound-a-like.

the darkness. BAHAHAHAHAAH! they probably made no money on that because of the fuck me its being promoted to death boring shite blaugh fucker of a stupuid song.

i feel ... like .. the x-mas spirit has overwhelmed me. i can believe in good things for 2004. the darkness has been defeated by a cult song.

griffin doome, Sunday, 21 December 2003 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I really like Mad World and Tom's hate hurts me in my heart. But to be honest, shock outsider takes Christmas Number One with mawkish MOR ballad isn't really that great a story. I was totally in favour of Kelly and Ozzy hitting number one, despite having never heard the record.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 21 December 2003 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

the build up for mad world is what makes it a great story. its been kicking around for ages. years?

griffin doome, Sunday, 21 December 2003 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

The Darkness are canny fellows and will be expecting to make plenty of money back in future years on the Xmas compo market. Clearly that doesn't affect the TOTAL INJUSTICE of this result though. :(

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Sunday, 21 December 2003 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

"Xmas compo market"

500 BEST CHRISTMAS NOVELTY SONGS ON THREE CDS - ONLY AT WOOLWORTHS sort of cash, tom? i think the song will be remembered like the mission's efforts to get the x-mas number one spot.

i feel ... so HAPPY. i went out bought mad world today as well!

griffin doome, Sunday, 21 December 2003 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

"cult" !!?

David Merryweather (DavidM), Sunday, 21 December 2003 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

the origins of the song are definitely cult. in north america at least and that is where i encountered the song. donnie darko failed at the box office over there.

griffin doome, Sunday, 21 December 2003 23:18 (twenty-one years ago)

You may mock Doomie, Tony Mortimer is set for life now on the back of "Stay Another Day" and it's not even a Christmas song!

I bought the shaped 12" picture disc of "Christmas Time".

:( :( :(

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Sunday, 21 December 2003 23:20 (twenty-one years ago)

the darkness are the grandkids of wayne hussey. ha ha. the mission were big once, werent they?

griffin doome, Sunday, 21 December 2003 23:21 (twenty-one years ago)

tis the sure decline of the darkness. y'know with all the marketing behind it - its going to be remembered as the grand folly of emi. ha ha.

griffin doome, Sunday, 21 December 2003 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Did Slade and Wizzard get to Number 1 with their respective Chrimbo songs?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 21 December 2003 23:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Slade yes, Wizzard no.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Sunday, 21 December 2003 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

oh tom, i feel for you!

teehee.

i'll stop.

griffin doome, Sunday, 21 December 2003 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

My woe is too deep even for you to add to it Doomie :(

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Sunday, 21 December 2003 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

don't worry i'm sure that the wizzard, err, the darkness will recoupe and do a baggy album, wait, wait, sorry, that is the mission. sorry.

griffin doome, Sunday, 21 December 2003 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually if Gary Jules wants another 'meaningful' song to sucker people with he could do worse than "Amelia"!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Sunday, 21 December 2003 23:54 (twenty-one years ago)

RUSSIANS!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 21 December 2003 23:56 (twenty-one years ago)

The Dream Of The Blue Turtles: Screwed and Chopped Version

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Sunday, 21 December 2003 23:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think that Mad World is an ace song however I don't think it's quite a christmas song. Therefore I think the darkness should be a more likely no.1. What about that pop idol song? Ok, I spew my ring at the thought of that being number one but I thought for some strange reason that that was in the runnings for number one.

Lovester (Lovester), Monday, 22 December 2003 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I never thought that a crap cover of a tears for fears song would make me quite so happy

chris (chris), Monday, 22 December 2003 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

it's good for Donnie Darko i think - that's the only real positive

stevem (blueski), Monday, 22 December 2003 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

next years xmas number one will be something rub from Amelie OST :-(

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Monday, 22 December 2003 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

But surely that'll be great because it will prominently feature accordions?

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 22 December 2003 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't mind either really - the Jules one is drab for sure and makes me wanna listen to TFF. have warmed to The Darkness one, i do like the bit where he wonders how on earth he's gonna make it through to New Year's

stevem (blueski), Monday, 22 December 2003 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

The best thing about "Mad World" is that the video appears to have been made on a budget that wouldn't even cover the Darkness' guitarist's shaving bills.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 22 December 2003 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

The video is horrendous.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 22 December 2003 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

It's such a dreadful attempt to make the song seem "Christmassey". It's "wintery". That's good enough.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 22 December 2003 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha, as if the Darkness video wasn't cheap enough Jules has beat them there too

stevem (blueski), Monday, 22 December 2003 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Please note I am no way defending the Daily Mail, traditionalists or Gary Jules. I just thought it was a crap article and worthy of attention in the way Old Fart!!! just meted out. And it was them I was calling idiots.

I hate how writing can be so ambiguous. Especially the way I do it.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 22 December 2003 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

"the darkness. BAHAHAHAHAAH! they probably made no money on that because of the fuck me its being promoted to death boring shite blaugh fucker of a stupuid song.

i feel ... like .. the x-mas spirit has overwhelmed me. i can believe in good things for 2004. the darkness has been defeated by a cult song."
and
"tis the sure decline of the darkness. y'know with all the marketing behind it - its going to be remembered as the grand folly of emi. ha ha. "

ahhh... Paul / Sonny / 'cool kid' / griffin (whatever you're calling yourself today)... come on now.
you are, i am led to believe anyway, a journalist.
surely a small part of being a journalist is to have some sort of connection to 'reality' (try it, you may like it, its where us normal folks live).

now, i'm ALL FOR folks having themselves an opinion (god knows, i've got my own), and if you genuinely hate the Darkness' music, then that's cool and all power to you.
BUT, to keep spouting these pathetic lies about them, PURELY because of this ongoing problem you have with ME. well ,that's just stupid.

i know you don't like me, and i know why. that's your problem, not mine.. because its YO who looks like an idiot when you go on your weird message-board rampages against me and the records i release (the 'Ian Astbury discovered the BellRays' quote was hilarious in theh extreme. you hate me so much that you won't even allow me the job i do? grow up)

so, to put you right once and for all:

1) on the contrary, the Darkness will have done quite nicely financially out of the past week's sales i imagine (i stay out of the financial aspects of their deal). whilst, yes, the single 'only' achieved number2 (with a paltry 220,000 sales), the album went back into the top 10 and sold close on 90,000 copies in the last week alone.
whereas 'Mad World' sold a huge 5000 copies more than 'Christmas Time', whilst the Gary Jules album sold... errm... next to none.
(i'm sure even someone as out of touch with the eral world as you can figure out where the most money is between singles and albums, yeah?)

2) defeated by a 'cult' song. you're just plain weird.
explain what's 'cult' about selling best part of quarter of a million records.
on second thoughts, don't bother, you'll only embarass yourself.

3) the Darkness 'marketing' has been a mere fraction of normal major label marketing. the success of the band has been largely down to hte fact that people actually LIKE THE SONGS. like it or not, people really do like them. in fact, 1.2 million records sold means that quite a lot of people like them. (i'm not saying that just because a lot of people like something means they're 'right' as such, but the people who boiught it obviously think so, and who are you to tell them they're wrong?)

4) 1.2 records in the UK alone means that the 'grand folly of emi' that you speak of is actually a huge financial success (if one cares about that sort of thing

5) and the band are actuall signed to Atlantic, which is a Warners company. so i'm not sure how EMI fit into this at all.

tell me again about how the Darkness are manufactured? come on, i'd be intrigued to know exactly what it is i've been doing this past 18 months.

if you have a further problem with me... to my face, try it.

ian
must destroy

ian johno (ian johno), Monday, 22 December 2003 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

so, does anyone want to buy 5000 copies of mad world then? they've served their purpose

chris (chris), Monday, 22 December 2003 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i would like to apologise to readers for my terrible spelling and over the top typo quota in that rant.
makes me appear slightly ill-educated - which of course i am - but was a result of typing in a fit of pique (if that's how its spelt)

all i want for christmas is my two front pique.

ian johno (ian johno), Monday, 22 December 2003 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Sadly Ian I fear you just encourage him :(

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Monday, 22 December 2003 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i know, and i'm sorry. as soon as i posted i regretted it.
god knows the amount of times i've had friends direct me to message-boards etc where this guy's been ripping into me (or my 'work') and i've stayed out of it and bit my tongue
but today i'm a little hungover and feeling a tad 'sensitive', so it got to me and i ran away at the mouth (err.. fingers).

i need crips and fizzy water. who'll go the corner shop for me?

ian johno (ian johno), Monday, 22 December 2003 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I was serious about Tubeway Army. Does ILM have the power to do that?

adam michel (adam michel), Monday, 22 December 2003 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Messageboards *plural*? FFS how many places have Doomie's spleen-venting going on?

Listen chief, we have nice polite conversations on here a fair bit but your constant quacking on about petty London indie label nonsense that almost no-one else in the world cares about is tedious in the extreme. That is all.

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Monday, 22 December 2003 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

By "petty London indie label nonsense" I mean the relationship between must Destroy and Poptones, not their respective output

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Monday, 22 December 2003 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't worry ailsa, I wasn't slagging you off!!!! I just like slagging off the Daily Mail!!!!! Maybe they'll eventually take notice of folks like me and take the time to do a Saturday Essay titled "Why The Past Was a Load of Complete Crap!!!!"!!!!

Oh, and I've just seen the video for "Mad World"!!!!! Why have they got Neil Innes in to mime for that singing bloke on the record?!?!?!?!

Old Fart!!! (oldfart_sd), Monday, 22 December 2003 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

who is ian johno?

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 22 December 2003 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

1.2 records in the UK alone means that the 'grand folly of emi' that you speak of is actually a huge financial success

EMI have adopted Marissa Merchant's pricing policy?

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 22 December 2003 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Can one of you British folks explain to me the significance of the Christmas #1? Why is it any more of a big deal than any other week?

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 22 December 2003 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

IT'S CHRISTMAS!!!!

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 22 December 2003 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh. Right. :)

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 22 December 2003 22:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Public service announcement

who is ian johno?

Ian Johnsen - Co-founder, Must Destroy

Coming from a background in record retail, Ian moved to Vital distribution who at the time was rapidly expanding owing to the success of Oasis.

His inevitable contact with Creation and Alan McGee led to him being offered a position within the label's production and manufacturing division, before it's demise a year later. Fortunately, a similar position was available at Alan McGee's new venture, Poptones.

A casual conversation with Alan McGee, led to him moving into A & R, having spotted a new up and coming band, January. He went on to sign The BellRays, Beachbuggy and Ken Stringfellow.

Whilst at Poptones he met future business partner, Alan Hake, who was also currently working in A&R where he had previously signed The Hives. On becoming redundant they started their own label, Must Destroy, fresh from the success of recent signings whilst at Poptones.

Their first signing was The Darkness with whom they released the first couple of singles, before signing them to Atlantic and with whom they still retain an involvement.

The key to the antagonism is the phrase ex-poptones.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 23 December 2003 08:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm just waiting for that tall young man to come back and explode. Should be amusing.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 23 December 2003 09:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope he has normal working hours today, I'm out of here by 1pm

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 23 December 2003 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Can one of you British folks explain to me the significance of the Christmas #1?

  1. It's the number 1 selling record!!!!!
  2. It's Christmas!!!!!!!!
  3. Loadsa folks buy Xmas singles for pressies!!!!!
  4. Any old crap can get to the top!!!! (eg Some mournful piano ballad from a cult movie from a couple of years ago!!!!!)
  5. There's usually a bit of a competition between various wacky "Xmas" singles!!!!!
  6. Cliff Richard invariably releases a corny seasonal song for everyone to battle against!!!!!!!
  7. It's invariably the biggest selling week of the year for singles!!!!! (In fact the peak of singles sales in the UK was Xmas 1979, the no. 1 of that time being that jolly yuletide ditty, er, "Another Brick in the Wall pt. 2" by Pink Floyd!!!)
  8. If the winner is any good, it'll end up on the usual "Now That's What I Call a Bumper Christmas Gramophone Experience!!!!" type compils for all eternity, and become part of the eternal shopping mall soundtrack to Xmas shopping less than a year later!!! (See Slade, Roy "Wizzard" Wood, Band Aid, Paul McCartney & Wings, Greg Lake, Jona Lewie, Shakin' Stevens, etc., etc., ....) Not a bad money spinner...
Mind you, it's not as important as it once was, due to singles not being as important as they used to be, but it's still a bit of a tradition....

Old Fart!!! (oldfart_sd), Tuesday, 23 December 2003 10:09 (twenty-one years ago)

That "significance" is still a tricky bugger to understand though, isn't it

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 23 December 2003 10:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, seeing as he's naming himself after Tim Robbins in The Player at the moment, who's up for framing Doomie for murder?

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 23 December 2003 10:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought the guy was mentally ill - isn't all this a bit mean?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 23 December 2003 10:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Doomie? Not that I knew of, unless being a fool is now a mental illness.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 23 December 2003 10:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry - I must have misunderstood.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 23 December 2003 10:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I think that this might be the best Xmas 1 & 2 that I can remember.

Possibly I am forgetting something.

the darkfox, Tuesday, 23 December 2003 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Your mind?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 23 December 2003 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

It's okay everyone! All we need to do to right this wrong is petition The Darkness to release their Euro 2004 football single, possibly entitled Muddy Balls (Come On Sven's Lads), and everything will be okay once again. And it will REALLY annoy Cabbage.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 24 December 2003 00:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Pinefox - you are forgetting Always On My Mind/Fairytale In New York, perhaps.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 24 December 2003 00:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Like most old bores I love 'The Fairytale of New York'.

I am not certain that it reached as high as #2, but if asked to guess I would say it had, and you seem to confirm that it did.

In 1987 I hated the Pet Shop Boys and their Elvis cover. I found it a blight on Christmas.

Possibly I have changed my mind, or softened my heart, since.

I am not sure what N. can mean.

the fairyfox, Wednesday, 24 December 2003 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

where'd that 'biog' of me come from?
makes for odd reading, as its actually accurate. which makes me think whoever wrote it knows us. but i ain't never seen it before.

ahh well. not to worry.

merry merry folks.

ian johno (ian johno), Wednesday, 24 December 2003 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I just heard the darkness' single on radio 4 - the singer said some stuff abt putting on a show, as opposed to artistic catharsis for the artist, which did make a bit of sense, 'though as usual w/pop/rock pronouncements, it was all a bit either this or that. Anyway, now I've heard both singles, and they both blow. Where is bob the builder when you want him?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Wednesday, 24 December 2003 20:05 (twenty-one years ago)

i heard the tears for fears version of 'mad world' today and wow there's actually a good song hiding behind gary jules gunky 'meaning' - and the dancing in the tears for fears video is holy wow like the kind i'd like to copy or something, i might do that, i mean the dancing of the guy in the long black coat who you can glimpse just outside the window, you'd need to wear a long black coat though i figure. uhhuh.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 24 December 2003 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Fucking shit!! This whole "Xmas Number One" thing is a PERFECT example of why the UK music scene is so much fuckin' cooler than the US music scene. The UK always has these cool chart battles like "Blur vs. Oasis!", "Eminem vs. Bob the Builder!" and all that shit. You Brits get EXCITED over the pop charts, dammit!! Would anything like that happen over here in a million years? No it fucking would not. Who's with me???

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Wednesday, 24 December 2003 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

US Equivalent- Murphy Lee versus Three Doors Down. SMELL THE RATINGS.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 24 December 2003 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't like the darkness ian. bfd??? weird. and i don't even know you to not like you. i do have a fulfilling life outside of all this indie nonsense.

griffin doome, Wednesday, 24 December 2003 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

and i'm not going to go into all this shit. 'cause its ridiculous. and i have nothing against must destroy. in fact i'm going to be pitching for reviews of january. but yeah, next time you see me, we can sort it out, face to face, but its been so goddamn long ago, i really don't care. do you?

and yeah i don't like the darkness. but am i enraged to bitterness about it. no. i'm at a friend's place who loves the darkness and at the moment am staring at a poster of it.

jesus. this is so pathetic. i'm so happy i've met some interesting people who i can tell rather bizarre stories like this too who have fuck all to do with the music industry. its fucking childish.

griffin doome, Wednesday, 24 December 2003 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

the ian astbury quote came from several sources and to be honest - i don't even like the bellrays. and no i don't hate you. jesus.

o.k.

what else?

and its not that i hate you, ian, i just don't rate you.

and fuck me i get facts wrong all the time. it comes from scanning music literature and not reading it. i don't give a shit when its on ilx but when its being published - yeah - like the cosmics review when i sasid they were dropped and instead of split. yeah i made sure it was corrected but am i too care that much about something i say on a message board?

and nick - fuck off - yer synchophantic ways disgust me man.

happy christmas.

and ian yeah, you know what, i hated you for a time because you made life unnecessarily difficult for me. but i got over it - why don't you.

merry christmas pashima.
