Gift-buying suggestions . . .

. . . for a friend who worships the Stooges (already has the Rhino box), hates Belle & Sebastian, mocks a Destroyer record I once gave him because a harpsichord is played on it. In general, an unapolgetic rockist with nostalgic ties to Kyuss, Jesus Lizard and the like.

What say ye, ILM glitterati?

Thee Hypnotics, Come Down Heavy. If it's still in print. If it's not in print, you can probably find it for a couple bucks in the used section. It's actually pretty damn good.

Just give them money.

Some good suggestions thus far, though this particular person was underwhelmed by the Rocket From the Crypt show in Chicago earlier this year.

Regarding the suggestion to give this guy money, I'm afraid that won't work. He's requested music from me, though he enjoys being prickly about it.

How can he not want money?! Who doesn't like money??!!

Aja (aja), Monday, 22 December 2003 05:33 (twenty-one years ago)

He's a single guy with a live-in girlfriend who works. They're not loaded but they're doing fine. He wants music so I try to oblige.

Last year, I gave him Destroyer's The Temple, thinking everyone would surely dig Destroyer as much as I did. I gave his girlfriend, who has a thing for "insurgent country," Laura Cantrell's When the Roses Bloom Again. The latter worked out great. The former went pfft.
