If David Essex fell on the street and landed in a puddle of dog wee would you laugh or help him up?

Because I hear he's not very nice and doesn't buy anyone a drink in pubs.

I cannot believe this is not at 50 posts yet...

C-Man (C-Man), Monday, 22 December 2003 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know who David Essex is, sorry

Also I have never seen a puddle of dog piss so the question strikes me as hypothetical

Take care

It's got to the point now where I have to click on the thread title just to confirm that it is, in fact, a C-Man thread. And it is!

I would help him up, I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

As long as I didn't get dog wee on my hands.

it's funny because I don't know him.

David Essex released a couple of really good singles in the '70's, "Lamplight" especially is very good and he was pretty sexy too around the time he made the films "That'll be the day" and "Stardust" (Come to think of it "Stardust was a great single too) so I probably WOULD help him up if he fell into a puddle of dog wee. But why do you say he's not very nice ? What have you heard ? He seemed very nice when he was interviewed on Jonathan Ross's radio show on Radio 2 a couple of months ago, even if the track they played from his new album did sound like a great big steaming pile of dog POO. (If it was dog poo he'd fallen into I don't think I'd help him up.)

I'd help him up as long as promised to sing a few lines of "Gonna Make You A Star"

three weeks pass...
Yes I would definitely help him up, he is very nice and genuine person, really down to earth and lives in the real world. Shame that he is only remembered for his 70's stuff. His latest CD is great(he has released brand new material every year since 1997)he chooses to not sign with a record company and releases stuff through his website he is not bothered about it making chart entries. Just a shame that he doesn't get more air play.

I don't think any of us were expecting her to say that.

sym (shmuel), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Despite it being Youth from Killing Joke's favorite song of all time, "Rock On" is the most embarassing bit of sonic dung ever to blight the airwaves, and Mr.Essex should occupy the dankest, most decrepit cell in the rancid undercarriage of Hell for birthing it on an unsuspecting world. Shame on him.

So the fact that the Smashing Pumpkins covered it during their final year of touring doesn't surprise you, is what you're saying. Me, I liked it.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

That Billy Corgan took the momentary break from attempting to fellate himself to cover such a fatuously abhorent "song" is unsurprising to me.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Speaking about covers (against better judgement) here, now ...if ...a certain verbose ...poster re-recorded "Hi, Hi, Hi/ C Moon" as "Ha, Ha, Ha C Mon" for the next ilx compilation,
would we, you know, laugh ...or wot?

one year passes...
Not only would I help David but I would take him home and bath him clean..from the tips of his toes all the way up slowly..how you can comment about his personality is a laugh..have you met him?? I have many times and he is the most sincerest people you could ever meet..I adore him and so do many others..his records can't be that bad if they keep being covered by top bands..even Oasis are fans..ROCK ON...p.s. Hi Sue ;-)

Gonna Make You A Star is my favorite Essex tune by miles. Everything else I've heard is just okay.

Cunga (Cunga), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 02:24 (twenty years ago)

I will hear nothing said against David Essex! This is what I had to say about him on my blog (newcomers will have to scroll down quite a bit to find it, but it's worth it). I also gave his Edsel reissues a rave review in Uncut magazine last year and his contributions to Saint Etienne's Tales From Turnpike House album are superb!

HAAAHAAAHAAHAHAAHAAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

In retrospect, I'd like to re-address my answer: Were I to come across Essex lying supine in the street in a sickly puddle of dog urine, I would neither laugh nor help him up but kneel down and shout the following:

"JIMMY DEAN MAKES SAUSAGE, JAMES DEAN IS A DEAD ACTOR! THEY ARE NOT THE SAME PERSON!"
