The rest of the LP is fine but it needs more listens.
So is there anything more from him that i should look out for?

i think i'm confident in remembering georgia fawn to have a especially soft and engaging familial atmos, to that end. with a stellar lineup, so thats the listeners own expectations coming into it too. but yeah perhaps foisted by that dedicated to my son side. cant find it right now tho grr
(not yet no, am super broke, holed up at home digging for reggaeton)

yeah and it def is a v similar deal in classical composition where many of my very faves are the pieces where the composer writes with a performer/ensemble's and their idiosyncracies in mind. or someone like feldman, who wrote some of his best stuff as attempts at portraits of his artist friends.
(let me know if you'd like (or are able to) to go to the marclay sometime - i did a thread on this but have not gone)

Found a used copy of the Get Back reissue of the Marion Brown Quartet LP on ESP yesterday. Really, really liking it. As dlp9001 says above regarding Why Not, it "balances free with tune nicely." Just enough of both to keep me really interested. Plus, I love getting lost in sidelong pieces that justify their length. I've meant to check him out for a while and I'm definitely interested in finding more now. Plus, it has a great cover:

The only one I've ever heard is Three for Shepp, which is really really good.

Definitely want to check that one out as I'm a big Shepp fan as well.

im not sure what to do about porto novo and reeds/vibes and some of the other non-impulse! non-esp shit. any opinions?

So sad. One of my fave musicians. His playing on Harold Budd's "Pavilion Of Dreams" is lovely.

listening to amina claudine myers's POEMS FOR PIANO, a solo piano tribute record to marion from 1979. nice impressionistic versions of MB songs, got me wondering about a few records i havent heard yet:
