selfish cunt

some months ago, i was due to attend a friends gig being held in a briefly unused bank in holburn. dj's and some manner of art happenings. as it turned out, i was burdened with the shame of debt and the complete inability to look after myself other than attempting to preserve myself by soaking in alcohol, and had run from london. still, i saw the video later - a poorly captured show, but there was one more striking moment. one utter knob who decided to hoised the union flag, burn it and start yelling, "britain is shit!" without explaining himself further. "why are they in this war?" "liberation, you cunt!" yells another friend, stealing the miccrphone. "has anyone get a bottle opener?" asks another friend. everyone thinks he's joking.
a friend said she quite liked it cos it got people talking. i envy that, not asking sublimity from everything.
anyway, some months later it becomes likely that it was that terrific knob who was responsible for the terrific 'britain is shit' single.
the particular mood of shoreditch is to be very direct, violent, heavy juxtapositions, war nonsense that towers above even bush in absurd moral certainty. the remarkable thing about this record is that leisurly, paranoid pace. it strolls where others shoot.

I've read this three times now and still have no idea what the fuck you are on about.

Mind you, I'm pretty dumb.

Apparently there is graffiti in some London toilet that reads: "Oh, the delicious irony of Hoxton". That sounds like the sort of thing you'd write, going on the post above.

I rather like the Selfish Cunt single, for my sins.

I clicked on this thread because I thought it was about my ex-wife. I'm not completely sure, but I don't think it is.

sasha, i explain myself quite poorly. apologis.

mencap, i would never write anything of the sort, and that is fruitless slander. which i would probably be given to myself, because i hate hoxton, it makes me paranoid, which is why i was so surprised i liked that single i wrote it down here. i'm saying there's some irony about me liking the thing, but it's cowardly to imagine irony began in 1994, and consists of some kinf of triangular relationhsip between what y ou think what's tacky, what you really like and why what you really like tends towars the tacky. irony can be gentler, and composed of the same elements as tragedy. trying to do something, and failing. trying to relate to something and failing. or insisting on something, or predictiung it, and realising and admitting (with an un-hoxton humility) you might be wrong.
the whole thing of shoreditch and hoxton is to be so gregarious and arch about being so cynical about everything. the single is a bit blunt, and i don't think britain is shit, but the record makes a case for why it feels britain's shit.

if any part of this remains unintelligble, i will be happy to explain myself when i'm sober.
