Any idea who is creating the mpegs of recent songs (usually by artists like Missy or Jay-Z) that start of with the song before switching into pure noise.

Is it A) bored little nothings amusing themselves,
B) bored little nothing record companies trying to hinder mpeg downloading
c) both of the above

Happened to me with Kelis - Milkshake, and somg Big Boi song, but never with any of my other MP3s (which are for the most part, either on independent labels or just aren't very well known, or are old) so I'm going to write off bad ripping software.

Also happens with the first 10 or 20 seconds of a song looped until the listed time.

four months pass...
This is caused by the Producers of the CDs taking steps to deter file sharing. They create a username with Kazaa or another P2P network. then they put about 20 different instances of a song on their computer. The first few seconds of the song usually play because thats all of the song they put on there. What they do is use a hack program to change the size listing of the song. So the song is listed as 3 minutes 20 seconds, but it is really only a 15 second clip. When your media player trys to play the rest of the song, it plays distortion or silence. The best way to avoid this is to take 3 different steps. 1. Change the Max number of sources to 1. That way you are only downloading from 1 person at a time no matter what. Kazaa will try to take little pieces from various users to speed up the download. Just pick a user with high bandwidth to DL from. 2. Make sure the person you are downloading from only has 1 user name showing on the list of songs. If you look closely and expand the directory of files found. You will see that the same user is supplying anywhere from 1-40 instances of the song...chances are its one of the bad guys or someone with 40 copies of a bad song. 3. Never download a song with (1) (2) (#) after it. This means that the song is a actual copy on someones computer. This means that if they had to have 2 copies they are probably just duplicates of a bad file.
