what was the last song you played that you had to listen to ten more times in a row?

I was driving in my car and put on "Through the Trees" by the Handsome Family. After "Weightless Again" was finished, I had to put it on repeat and play it for about a half hour straight. Those fucking lyrics are insane, I swear it's one of the best songs I've ever heard.

how bout the rest of you?

Gear! (Gear!), Tuesday, 23 December 2003 06:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, LCD Sound System

"Songs About Rain," Gary Allan.

"Meet Me By the Water" -- Saturday Looks Good to Me

But you're right about "Weightless Again" -- some of my favorite lyrics ever. Also great on that album is "The Woman Downstairs"

Andrew Bird - "I"

"Weightless Again" is hypnotic.

I don't know about ten times, but the last song I listened to repeatedly -- maybe five times -- was "Street Scene" by Bark Psychosis.

Life Without Buildings - 'Let's Get Out'. I've got into that album all over again, I've been listening to it solidly for the last week, haven't really played much else, just living inside that one record.

NickB (NickB), Tuesday, 23 December 2003 09:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Renegade Soundwave is fast and effective. But ten times in a row?

I think I heard "Hey Ya!" ten times in a row scanning the car radio. Glad I like it.

(And I still can't get through Tallahassee without playing "No Children" at least twice.)

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 23 December 2003 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Xiu Xiu's "Sad Pony Guerilla Girl" -- this was a while ago, but I'm still sure I've never heard anything like it (even the original version of the song, "Sad Girl," by the singer's old band Ten in the Swear Jar, is no comparison). It scared the shit out of me in a cool way and I kept wanting it to happen again and it kept working.

my answer to the thread question is "Hey Julie" and i'm not ashamed to say it

and I went bananas for "Meet Me By The Water" too when I first heard it (thanks ILM!)

roger adultery (roger adultery), Thursday, 25 December 2003 05:56 (twenty-one years ago)

These three in this order more than ten times in a row:

"Dog Days" by Matthew Dear
"Millionaire" by Kelis feat. Andre 3000
"Yeah (Stupid version)" by LCD Soundsystem

Nik (Nik), Thursday, 25 December 2003 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

"Throng" by Nick Ingman. (If you're not up on your library music, this was sampled heavily by LTJ Bukem for "Inner Guidance".)

nate detritus (natedetritus), Thursday, 25 December 2003 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I never do this, I mean, who has the time? But I found myself getting strangely jealous of all y'all who do nothing but sit around listening to "Yeah" x 10 (that's like 3 hours or something!!)

so I've decided to listen to "Dum Dum Diddle" by ABBA 10 times.. I'll report back

Sonny A. (Keiko), Thursday, 25 December 2003 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

damn I wish I'd picked Fernando

You know, "I wish I was dum dum diddle" is grammatically incorrect

Sonny A. (Keiko), Thursday, 25 December 2003 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Lyrics Born ft. Lateef "The Last Trumpet". And even after the tenth time I still couldn't believe such a badical song existed.

Has never ever happened in my case, I think. Not even during growing up. Not ten times in a row, no.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Saturday, 27 December 2003 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

this hardly ever happens to me either-- about once every ten to fifteen years. but it happened a few weeks ago.

"The Game is Not Over" (feat. Ms. Kitten) - T. Raumschmiere

i dislike the rest of the album, though.

lf, Saturday, 27 December 2003 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Cannot Contain This by Moloko. I always want to return to the beginning of the song. It's a triptych, the first being the most sublime.

fourfoldvision, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 05:38 (seventeen years ago)

Doesn't quite count, but I listened to Flamingos "I Only Have Eyes For You" followed by the Field "From Here We Go Sublime" back-to-back on repeat for about three hours, so that's probably about 30 times in a row.

Mark Rich@rdson, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 05:39 (seventeen years ago)

for me last week it was LCD Soundsystem "Yeah" (Crass Version), which has such a stunning build-up over 5-6 minutes

Dan S, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 05:52 (seventeen years ago)

For some reason this happened seriously with Hot Chip's version of Don and Sherry, which isn't even really that[ good, but I just was totally unable to stop listening to it, I don't even like Hot Chip, I guess, I did consider giving them another chance after this.

mehlt, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 05:53 (seventeen years ago)

*that. I really have to start proofreading my posts.

And before that maybe Florac by Pantha du Prince, and of course Law of Grace by Soul Capsule, which I probably spent hours upon hours listening to after I first downloaded it, and many hours playing it in my head when away from my computer.

mehlt, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 05:57 (seventeen years ago)

SMELL YO DICK

J0hn D., Tuesday, 13 November 2007 06:52 (seventeen years ago)

I've been playing a lot of Pet Shop Boys recently, last couple weeks or so. I have no doubt I've played "Being Boring," "Suburbia," "Rent," "Go West," "It's a Sin," and especially "Can You Forgive Her?" at least ten times apiece this week. The latter, in particular, I spun at least 5 times in a row the other night.

stephen, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 07:07 (seventeen years ago)

it really doesnt kill every song

CaptainLorax, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 03:41 (seventeen years ago)

I'm sure I've done it with songs like 'our house' and 'I've been loving you too long' but also some lesser known songs that are favs of mine - king creosote - 'counselling' and grifters - 'boho/alt'.. mostly songs that I enjoy singing (but I cant find the thread where I listed them all)

CaptainLorax, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 04:02 (seventeen years ago)

well, i didn't 'have to,' but:
Killers feat. Lou Reed - Tranquilize (uh, Brandon Flowers: lose the kids)

Tape Store, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 04:04 (seventeen years ago)

"you must be listening to the wrong music. i have listened to certain songs upwards of 40 times in a row, and i still love them to death. only the best songs can stand up to that kind of repetition.
--pipecock"

i could totally see 10 times in a row for someone who doesn't get burnt out as quickly as i do, but 40 times in a row is nuts. i mean, good for you, i guess, but i can't even fathom that.

Lingbert, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 05:04 (seventeen years ago)

but hey, maybe i really haven't heard the right music. plz list songs you have listened to ~40 times in a row.

Lingbert, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 05:07 (seventeen years ago)

i couldn't stop playing that mike nesmith song a week or two ago. i just had to hear it over and over. i was transfixed. so beautiful. it's like discovering a new world.

also, my favorite karen alexander album. last month i must have played it ten times in one week. Or more. I've probably played it 50 times since i got it last year or whenever. i'm obsessed.

scott seward, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 05:38 (seventeen years ago)

^^this sounds awesome and i wish i could do it

For some reason this happened seriously with Hot Chip's version of Don and Sherry

It happened with the original for me, although probably not ten times in a row.

More recently, "Heaven on Earth", Britney Spears, two days ago.
