C/D: Mix CDs as Xmas Gifts

I like to give my close relatives mix CDs for Xmas. I try not to be too imperialist by asking them in advance what they're looking for and tayloring things to their taste instead of just imposing the shit I like on them. Is this an acceptable practice? Do you think people actually listen to/appreciate these things? What does it say about me as giftgiver? (I'm setting the volleyball up pretty high here. I hope hstencil spikes the motherfuck.)

Here are a couple of the mixes I made as gifts this year:

Real Politik: Coldplay 1999-2003

Father Figure: George Michael 1983-1999

Obey Your Master: 20 Years of Metallica

PopLife 12.20.03

Classic when you're broke and the recipient is too.

Make nice covers for them, and label the CD and it's ok I think.

I just finished this one which I'll give as a gift to someone along with a bunch of other stuff. I don't think a mix-cd on its own would really cut it for anyone I know, or maybe it would but y'know.. I'd feel like a real cheapskate in the end.

Paul Westerberg - Got You Down
The Goodees - Condition Red
Lonnie Donegan - This Train
Gordon Lightfoot - I'm Not Sayin'
Gene Clark - With Tomorrow
Loudon Wainwright III - The Swimming Song
The Beatles - Two Of Us
Big Star - September Gurls
The Flaming Lips - Fight Test
Lynn Anderson - Rose Garden
Boyce & Hart - I Wonder What She's Doing Tonight
The Bee Gees - Railroad
The Byrds - Oil In My Lamp
The Cash Brothers - Shadow Of Doubt
The Waterboys - When Ye Go Away
Tommy James & the Shondells - Crimson & Clover
Elvis Presley - Gentle On My Mind
Gene Clark - Why Not Your Baby
Tommy Roe - Jam Up Jelly Tight
The Beach Boys - Don't Worry Baby
Loudon Wainwright III & Shawn Colvin - A Heart Needs A Home
American Music Club - Western Sky
Loudon Wainwright III - Lullaby
Dr. Hook - If Not You

God.. it's so obvious that I'm approaching 30.

I never seen so much country in one thread on ILX.

Sounds like a good idea to give a mix-CD as a Christmas gift if you do it as an extra. Might seem a bit "Scrooge" to give it as your only gift though.
