list 'em. can either be a hybrid or something totally new. make an attempt to explain it.

here's mine : Disco industrial reggae. i wish i could tell you what that might sound like-- perhaps dub with a funkier beat and synths while a heavily distorted voice screams and a hammer pounds hot steel in time with the snare???

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 28 December 2003 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

5/4 dance music is more natural to me than 4/4, esp. if it has that "Mission Impossible" pulse (DUN-dun-dun-DUN-dun-dun-DUN-dun-DUN-dun)

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 28 December 2003 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Bela Fleck?

He's not exactly 'No Depression' matierial, but the guy does play the banjo. I suppose the word "rock", would be questionable.

one year passes...
Lasgana!

(Since salsa as a genre designation may have started as a result of people yelling out "salsa" during performances, I'm tempted to try this with "lasagna." "LASAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNAAAAAAA!" "More lasagna!")

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Thursday, 23 June 2005 12:14 (twenty years ago)

"gangsta folk" was suggested upthread; I believe John Wesley Harding called his band "Gangsta Folk All-Stars" at one time.

Pointless anecdote: Some time ago, I was editing a magazine to which someone submitted a record review (odd enough because said magazine had never published a record review).

It began with words to the effect that "The problem with most vegan hardcore bands is that they focus on the message so much that the music suffers." Odd enough that "vegan hardcore" was genre to begin with; still odder that it was a large enough sample to make generalizations about.

So I wrote back asking whether in addition to vegan hardcore, there were bands that do macrobiotic disco, carnivorous reggae, ovo-lacto-vegetarian soul, fruitarian polkas....

The Mad Puffin, Thursday, 23 June 2005 12:23 (twenty years ago)

Chemo. (Chemical Emo)

It'd probably sound something like Jamie Stewart purging his soul over tracks like Vitalic's "La Rock" and DP's "Rollin' & Scratchin'" (and some of the tougher late-80s/early 90s acid trax).
