A new Lamb album out in the UK. How'd you Brits like it?

i like the single (Wonder) but haven't heard the rest of it. i suspect it's pleasant but not particularly exciting tho. should be seeing them at Brixton soon (re-scheduled gig from their cancelled Apollo show)

not a brit, but it is clearly their most booooooooooring effort so far. whenever one of them is too much in charge, the result is flawed. on 'fear of fours' it was andy barlow who was allowed to throw samples and programming around the room like a madman. this time it's the poetic elvery of lou rhodes that's got the better of the band. i think that their debut and 'what sound?' are their greatest records. they're balanced.

It's the only one of theirs I've heard (I only bought it on a whim of my partner's) and I've only listened to it once or twice so far - it's OK but can't say I'm likely to be ordering their entire back catalogue any time soon or anything.

Sorry, that doesn't actually help much, does it?

Some of it is bloody gorgeous. And "Sun" is ace. But really I'd put it on a par with "What Sound", which I've never rated as highly as the first two.

Jay Kid OTM - I've not yet heard a simpler or more accurate description of what happens to the Lamb creative process when the balance is lost. Not hear the new album yet, but I have low hopes having heard the wishy-washy "Wonder" single. Shame, Goldfrapp have well and truly nicked their (and lots of other bands') thunder in the last 12 months.

It was released in the whole of Europe, not just the UK. I loved the their first album, the second one was OK, the third was rather tedious and this new one I'd like to describe in three words: self-help muzak. Urgh.

YOU PEOPLE ARE ALL MENTALISTS!!!! "B-Line" alone makes _Fear Of Fours_ one of the best albums to come out that year! (I have not heard the new one yet but am afraid that it will sound more like _What Sound_ than the other two.)

Love the first two albums to death ("Gorecki" still makes me go all wobbly) but "What Sound" was very, very dull indeed. If the new one is anything like it I won't be bothering. Shame.

Dan so OTM, the first half of Fear of Fours is utterly sublime. I'm not listening to the rest of yall! ;)

Quite a lot of the second half of Fear Of Fours is good too.

I liked the new album quite a lot - quite gorgeous. It's easily their best from a melodic/harmonic point of view. Less hard-hitting/inventive rhythmically than earlier stuff. I guess it depends what you like the earlier stuff for - I've always found their use of beats clever and inventive but not satisfyingly assimilated into the rest of the music, so I think this is their most consistently likeable album. But I'd have expected that to be a minority view round ILM.

It's out in Canada too, btw. Yeah, the new one is very much like What Sound. The first album is still my favourite, for the gorgeous double-bass sound; they've gone father away with each album, which is sad. I haven't listened to the new one that much, though, so my thoughts my change. Mind, I've never listened to What Sound very much at all.

"Softly"! "Bonfire"! "Ear Parcel"! "Alien"! "Little Things"!

_Fear of Fours_ murders like a deranged ganster on angel dust.
