Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll start -- "Outfit" Drive-By Truckers, "All My Life" Evan Dando, "Hurt" Johnny Cash, "Gender Bombs" the Stills, "Joey" Concrete Blonde (live in Brazil), "Otherside" Rancid

Bow Wow f/ Jagged Edge - "My Baby"
no kidding, it comes on the radio and I just want to cry like a little bitch.

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

"Superstar" and "Love Me I Will go" by Nina Nastasia

Ben Dot (1977), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

"I Want You" - Moloko, but only when performed live

JoB (JoB), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 16:19 (twenty-two years ago)

"Switching Off" by Elbow. Had me crawling on the floor with my eyes closed.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I have to come to terms with the fact that Adam & The Ants mixed with the Chemical Brothers, featured on one of the gazillion 'Soulwax' bootlegs out there, just made me choke with joy a few minutes ago. Lil Mo's "4ever" does too.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Teary-eyed? Well, "Blood On Your Hands" on the new Killing Joke had absolutely No right being as good as it was, coming from essentially a "comeback" album by a twenty-five year old band. They still got it!

"Secret" and "The Song That Saved My Life" on The Man on the Burning Tightrope by Firewater were both wildly emotional departures into introspection for the band, and both quite poignant, I find.

the entirety of the Sun Kil Moon album. Nothing like a tribute to dead boxers and glenn tipton to get the tears flowing.

Chris 'Knuckle Deep' V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

a couple of songs on Bottleneck's Late Nights, Early Mornings album.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

"Of Montreal" from the Stills. The line "i kiss the lipstick on your teeth" and the delivery of it is so sexy it makes me teary eyed and makes me think good thoughts about my college days.

Stars - "Elevator Love Letter" especially the "... I'll take her home after midnight, and if she likes I'll tell her lies, of how we'll be in love by the morning" part. I'm welling up thinking about it right now.

Also, I hadn't heard Dolly Parton's "Coat of Many Colors" since I was a kid, and it's just devastating.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

"One Foot In Front Of The Other" by Bright Eyes
"Hey Ya" by Outkast
"The Young & The Hopeless" & "Hold On" by Good Charlotte (ok they got me teary-eyed last year too but they're singles now)
"Elevator Love Letter" by Stars (a few others on the album too)
"Maps" and all the songs that follow it on the Yeah Yeah Yeah's Fever To Tell
"Synthesizer" by the Electric Six
"All The Things She Said" by t.A.T.u
"Special Needs" by Placebo
"Minerva" by the Deftones
"I'm A Ghost" by Ted Leo
"Dismantle Me" by the Distillers

This is probably only a quarter (if that) of the songs that I got teary-eyed to DURING this year.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sure everyone is tired of my love for this song, but seriously, Lyrics Born & Lateef "The Last Trumpet". For real.

teh nza, Wednesday, 31 December 2003 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

"Minerva" by the Deftones

This song really grew on me. Hated it initially, but quite like it now. No fookin' idea what he's singing about, tho'. Love the Live at Pompeii referencing video.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 21:26 (twenty-two years ago)

He's singing about how much he loves PJ Harvey or Mary Timony or something. The whole album is about a rock girl he's placed on a pedestal, and I can join in for one song at least.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Izzat a fact? T'anks, Antoine.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)

oh yeah, totally "Maps" - especially the version from their Peel Session.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

The Cat Power performance on Letterman. WOW.

Josh Timmermann (Josh Timmermann), Thursday, 1 January 2004 09:28 (twenty-two years ago)

The only one that did it often enough for me to remember:
Cat Power, 'Good Woman'. waaaaaaah.

cis (cis), Thursday, 1 January 2004 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

no tears but johnny cash's 'hurt' causes a spine-shiver every time

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 January 2004 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I second "Outfit" by the Drive-By Truckers. "Minvera" may have, but I haven't heard it since the spring, so I can't remember.

John Fredland (jfredland), Thursday, 1 January 2004 23:55 (twenty-two years ago)

all american rejects - swing, swing (especially combined with the video).

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 2 January 2004 00:17 (twenty-two years ago)

the sleepy jackson - don't you know.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 2 January 2004 00:19 (twenty-two years ago)

iron and wine - bird stealing bread

Emilymv (Emilymv), Friday, 2 January 2004 02:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Surprisingly tear-free year for me. Daniel Bedingfield's "If You're Not The One" definitely, but that was one of my picks for last year. Sugababes' "Situations Heavy" may be the closest.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 2 January 2004 02:37 (twenty-two years ago)
