So was NYLPM. But I'm really starting this thread because it's an amusing little article about the critical highs and lows of the last year in all fields: the NYP story on Klosterman, Brown Bunny, John Currin Eggars, Liz Phair, etc.

the first time I clicked it, I just kept coming back to this page. But it works now. I liked this one more than I should have. Since I am Dave Eggers.

Most Successful Use of Eggers-Bashing To Promote One's First
Novel
James Frey. What he said about Dave Eggers' A Heartbreaking
Work of Staggering Genius: "A book that I thought was mediocre
was being hailed as the best book written by the best writer of my
generation," he said. "Fuck that. And fuck him and fuck anybody that
says that. I don't give a fuck what they think of me. I'm going to try
to write the best book of my generation and I'm going to try to be the
best writer." The current Amazon.com sales rank of his book, A
Million Little Pieces: 271.

do you think one of them paid a premium or something to amazon to be so paired?

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Hitching a ride, so to speak.

Here's New York Press' Mark Ames on music critic Chuck Klosterman: "Klosterman is, quite simply and almost literally, an ass. His soft, saggy face bears a disturbing resemblance to a 50-year-old man's failing, hairless back end. His tiny, red mouth is a sphincter twisting to a pained close 40 seconds after taking a brutal pounding from Peter North."

i laughed pretty hard at this, mostly because it shows pretty clearly that Ames has been watching a lot of porn, and would really like to cause pain and bleeding by pounding ass.

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

A lesser journalist would have begun with "Klosterman is literally an ass..."

dean gulberry (deangulberry), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I once said Vincent Gallo looked Chris Barron + Charles Manson; in the photo's article, he looks like Rudy Guiliani + Gavin Rossdale.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Vincent Gallo is better than Roger Ebert! There, I said it again.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

The diva, ever the critical punching bag,

WHAT the FUCK!?!?!??!

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, I wondered about that myself!

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahahah, do I get $5 from Microsoft for starting the thread, now that they've linked to it?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh wait, never mind, Chuck linked to mine. I'm so out of it these days.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe william saletan will find his way here, and i can tell him off for being a pompous windbag like i've wanted to for YEARS.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 1 January 2004 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
They did it again.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 16 January 2004 22:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I've always kind've wondered, how much impact does ILM-and-the-bloggers-who-regularly-post-on-ILM have on the rest of the world?

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 16 January 2004 22:37 (twenty-one years ago)

considering that ben williams posts here, i don't think it's that much of a shocker. it's nice though!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 16 January 2004 22:37 (twenty-one years ago)

how much impact does ILM-and-the-bloggers-who-regularly-post-on-ILM have on the rest of the world?

Huge and immense!

Paul Ess, Friday, 16 January 2004 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Sometimes I almost feel bad about the extent to which we color popular taste.
why, just yesterday i saw Michael Mayer's "Immer" flying out of HMV like hot pancakes. Clutching the disc with a rare fervour, the first said consumer yelled: "I goddit! Yeaah! I'm running home to post about 'Psychometry'! Motherfuckers!"
It's kind of cool, but I liked ILM's earlier stuff better.

paulhw (paulhw), Friday, 16 January 2004 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

what exactly was linked this time¿

dyson (dyson), Friday, 16 January 2004 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I couldn't find it either.

dean! (deangulberry), Friday, 16 January 2004 23:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Phhpt. I goofed. They linked to Jess' Seattle Weekly article and Tom's blog, not ILx.

I didn't know B. Williams posts here.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 16 January 2004 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

quite often; well often in volume when he does post, michael. so yeah, not often. gah getting drunk here.

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 16 January 2004 23:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Nate was listed too!

Like I said on the AMA/ILx thread, I miss a lot, I mix up a lot of frequent posters and some others don't even show up on my radar.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 16 January 2004 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

you know, even though i like ben and am grateful for the link and am still fairly proud of the line, i really dislike the slate link-happiness stylee.
