Men Without Hats non-synth albums "Sideways"/"Women & Men": Classic or dud?

Dud, I think. They got ponderous and lost all their fun, and the sound was dull and disappointing after the effervescence of their toy-synthpop. I have only listened to Sideways all the way through once, and Women & Men just a couple songs, so maybe there are positive points I missed?

Sideways is listenable but not worth seeking out. Parts remind me of Bowie, but not inspired Bowie. The cover of "I Am The Walrus" can be fun to put on mixes. Neither classic nor dud, but edging towards dud.

Check out lead singer Ivan's 2000 solo album "The Spell" for the requisite spine-tingling synthpop of "Pop goes the World."
You won't be disappointed.

one year passes...
It took me way to long to get around to Women And Men aka ...In The 21st Century. Not on par with Pop Goes The World (but what is?), but much bettern than Sideways. Features a slightly unexpected glam influence on some tracks, lyrics that occasionally get a little too socially conscious, and 3-4 must hears including an Abba cover. Original "I'm In Love" goes back to the synths and at the very least deserves to be in their canon, and I'm leaning strongly towards the Mott The Hoople-ish "Everybody's Selling Something" as well.

"pop goes around the world "was even better than "the safety dance".
