if you don't like hip-hop, get something by fifty-cent or jay-z and listen to it. if you don't like r&B, chocolate factory may be a good idea.

as fer me, i'm torn b/w giving wilco, sigur ros, or linkin park a spin.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 4 January 2004 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

and to see if i can survive w/t wanting to slit me wrists or something.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 4 January 2004 22:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm fantastically happy for all the weed the Black Crowes smoked since that meant they couldn't record more than they did.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 4 January 2004 22:41 (twenty-one years ago)

but ned, the idea is that you get yerself a black crowes cd, listen to it, and say something NICE about it!

and help me decide whether i should the above for wilco, sigur ros, or linkin park please?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 4 January 2004 22:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i think it's gonna be sigur ros, b/c i bet that they're less litigious than linkin park if i go to soulseek and d/l stuff.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 4 January 2004 22:44 (twenty-one years ago)

The Grateful Dead have made lovely album covers.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 4 January 2004 22:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i like that picture of the round chicago skyscraper on the wilco cover.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 4 January 2004 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

but ned, the idea is that you get yerself a black crowes cd, listen to it, and say something NICE about it!

Well, that ain't gonna happen.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 4 January 2004 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Kelis and Mya are significantly delightful to look out. Don't care much for their music, tho'.

I'm really trying to come up with something positive to say about Good Charlotte, but am failing miserably.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 4 January 2004 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually Black Crowes' Remedy is a quite enjoyable song.
And American Rose is an excellent Grateful Dead album
And FSA *still* sounds like something bad happened on the freeway.

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 4 January 2004 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Kelly Jones has done wonders to help short men with gap-teeth and one eyebrow have sex.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Sunday, 4 January 2004 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

alright, it's sigur ros's (). it'll be playing in the background tonight as i clean my bathroom.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 4 January 2004 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

the word "Speakerboxxx" reminds me of Bubba Sparxxx

nate detritus (natedetritus), Sunday, 4 January 2004 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

as fer me, i'm torn b/w giving wilco, sigur ros, or linkin park a spin

Wilco's your best bet. They can be rather dull at times, but they shouldn't make you feel ill.

As for not liking particular genres. I can't really think of one that I don't like at all. There's usually a few tracks/bands that I quite like, even if I wouldn't buy their records. Having said that, I couldn't imagine ever liking turbo-folk. But never having been to Serbia, I hope that I will never get the chance to formulate an empirical opinion.

But to answer your question, "Last Resort" by Papa Roach is the only argument I can wage in favour of nu-metal.

Ben Dot (1977), Sunday, 4 January 2004 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Counting Crows are the best band with the words Counting and Crows in their name

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 4 January 2004 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahahaha

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 5 January 2004 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Jon Butler Trio's latest single had a nice moment of wahhed slide guitar.

Dammit, only Australians could know the pain that this statement just cost me

Jedmond, Monday, 5 January 2004 03:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Coldplay's music is a lot prettier than most corporate indie-schmindie wankers.

Stupid (Stupid), Monday, 5 January 2004 03:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Radiohead are... unh... delightfully avoidable.

at times.

Sasha (sgh), Monday, 5 January 2004 03:44 (twenty-one years ago)

enrique looks less moley lately

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 5 January 2004 03:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Nice things...
Black Crowes kinda sounds like The Rolling Stones before they started to suck. (The Stones, I Mean.)
Counting Crows kinda sounds like REM...except not as good.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Monday, 5 January 2004 07:14 (twenty-one years ago)

sigur ros can be safely ignored, as opposed to actively hated. and, at moments, they sound like something eno would've rejected as too soporific.

that's the best that i can do!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 5 January 2004 07:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll finish one for Alex. "I like Good Charlotte more than Bon Jovi" Does this count?

cs appleby (cs appleby), Monday, 5 January 2004 07:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Creed is well mastered. I think. Actually I know less than nothing about mastering. But I spose anyone with a big budget would have to get someone good to do the mastering.

Jole, Monday, 5 January 2004 11:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Blur's 'Think Tank' has a few good ideas in it.

cis (cis), Monday, 5 January 2004 11:47 (twenty-one years ago)

"Mad World" is a good song and the Gary Jules version has made me hear the original a few times more.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 5 January 2004 12:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Gary Jules is giving the flat cap market a much needed boost

stevem (blueski), Monday, 5 January 2004 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

enrique looks less moley lately

You're looking less ratty yourself

Enrique (Enrique), Monday, 5 January 2004 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Ash haven't killed anyone.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 5 January 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

To the best of my knowledge, no members of Muse are in the British National Party.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 5 January 2004 12:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm facinated with the Tea Party.

peepee (peepee), Monday, 5 January 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

peepee (peepee), Monday, 5 January 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Ludacris isn't at all like his name. really.

janni (janni), Monday, 5 January 2004 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Lucinda Williams probably isn't responisble for the fire alarm going off in my apt. building three times between midnight and 7 a.m.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 5 January 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

The Levellers had some pretty girl fans.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 5 January 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Madonna is the most admirable business woman i can think of. Always on top of the new trends and hunting down good producers. Her music makes my bile churn.

tiiiiiiiiiim (tiiiiiiiiiim), Monday, 5 January 2004 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Limp Bizkit prove there CAN be a career for the shabby and tuneless. (Sue me, that wasn't completely nice...)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

radiohead are quite adept at puns

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i swear, i have seen a worse live band than Ocean Colour Scene.

(but at least they were amusing. well, somewhat.)

drat. i think i've gone and ruined it. :P

janni (janni), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Kelly Jones has done wonders to help short men with gap-teeth and one eyebrow have sex.

Having sex again, are we, Nick?

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

sigur ros can be safely ignored, as opposed to actively hated.

I thought that too. At least until I saw one of their videos...

Ben Dot (1977), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I like big animal costumes just like the guy from the Flaming Lips does!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 00:46 (twenty-one years ago)

That Bono's awfully well-connected, 'innee?

pete s, Tuesday, 6 January 2004 00:59 (twenty-one years ago)

The Darkness will always be more popular in the UK than they will here in the US.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 01:05 (twenty-one years ago)

At least two-thirds of Feeder haven't killed themselves yet.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 01:06 (twenty-one years ago)

this thread has turned into something rather different from what Enrique intended.....it's become the Back-handed compliments thread.

pete s, Tuesday, 6 January 2004 01:09 (twenty-one years ago)

not Enrique...Eisbar

pete s, Tuesday, 6 January 2004 01:11 (twenty-one years ago)

"if you don't like hip-hop, get something by fifty-cent or jay-z"

Wha?

I thought I liked at least *some* hip-hop, but everything I've heard by the aforementioned artists is shite.

Sasha (sgh), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 02:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I heard some of 50 Cent's diss tracks on Ja Rule and they're easily the greatest things I've ever heard by him.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 02:46 (twenty-one years ago)

if i was recommending hip hop to a non-believer such as myself, i would recommend eric b & rakim. or something from a similar timeframe.

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 02:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Also Poem-Cees.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 02:49 (twenty-one years ago)

"Marky" Mark Wahlberg was real good in "Boogie Nights." Is he still recording? Is he still making movies?

Scott Bloomfield, Tuesday, 6 January 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Basement Jaxx and Outkast definitely made albums of this year.

dean gulberry (deangulberry), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)
