I've just bought the Pet Shop Boys Best of, and I've discovered that I actually DO like "You Were Always On My Mind"

It's alright, innit?

I never, ever, understood any interest in this group.
So, therefore, I can't agree with you.

peepee (peepee), Monday, 5 January 2004 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I kinda like PSB.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 5 January 2004 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

it's a great song. so is elvis' version.

joan vich (joan vich), Monday, 5 January 2004 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a great song, especially the extended version on the album with the 'you were always in my HOUSE' breakdown.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 5 January 2004 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

That's the thing, I never had any interest in this group either. I figured that if I'm EVER gonna like them, I would have to get the best of and see. At the moment, on first listen, it's pleasent. I think I'd play it while playing Civ III.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Monday, 5 January 2004 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

It is one of the best songs ever, even by PSB's ludicrously high standards.

It's a great song, especially the extended version on the album with the 'you were always in my HOUSE' breakdown.

Let me echo this greatly. Let me note that the return from the breakdown to the main song is one of the most dramatic things ever recorded, especially with that slight burst of the main arrangement heralded the sudden rush. Yay!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 5 January 2004 19:37 (twenty-two years ago)

The world's a funny place.

peepee (peepee), Monday, 5 January 2004 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

PSB are all about drama in a way that few bands are.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 5 January 2004 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

It's alright, innit?

Who's been saying it ain't?

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Monday, 5 January 2004 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

PSB are all about drama in a way that few bands are.

Or are willing to admit to....well, except for the Darkness. I'm tempted to hope PSB will become the 'new' Rolling Stones, except they're not so desperate to tour for the cash.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 5 January 2004 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Who's been saying it ain't?

Someone's phoney "guilt" complex has.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 5 January 2004 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I think they're greatest pop group of the past 15 years (or is it 20 now? Yikes)

LondonLee (LondonLee), Monday, 5 January 2004 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

My friend just leant me the Best Of like, 20 mins ago. I don't know loads by them, but what I've heard is perfectly formed pop. Never much cared for his effemenate voice before, but I love "You Were Always On My Mind". Pisses on Elvis' version. And one of them is from Blackpool (which is where I live). So I'm hoping to be impressed.

_Alternative_ ROOOOOLS

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 5 January 2004 22:27 (twenty-two years ago)

PSB version is my favorite of this song, though I also like Willie Nelson's.

dylan (dylan), Monday, 5 January 2004 23:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I just bought the PSB/Liza Minnelli album the other day. Does anyone else here have it?

Sean (Sean), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 01:31 (twenty-two years ago)

We used to listen to that PSB-produced Minnelli album at a record store I worked at. I remember liking it, but haven't heard it in a long time.

dylan (dylan), Tuesday, 6 January 2004 03:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyone else consider Introspective to be their best album?
I for one can't believe the AMG reviewer only gave it 3 out of 5.

As has already been mentioned the 9 min version of Always on my mind is absolutely gorgeous. The best track however is the Sterling void cover "It's alright" which is pure disco nirvana.

Pet Shop Boys are great, but I prefer Willie Nelson's version of "Always On My Mind".
