Does it exist?

I mean, I know they started out with "Blood Money" by Primal Scream, and I know about "House of Jealous Lovers" and "Losing My Edge"/"Beat Connection" and the two mixes of "Yeah." What else is there?

Keep in mind, that discogs.com link leads you to Amazon and the option to purchase "The DFA Live" which is described thusly:

"DFA specializes in a highly complex but richly melodic compound made of equal parts symphonic progressive rock and jazz fusion. Far from being the solo-happy wankfest it might appear to be from the description, the album is a testament to the band's strong ensemble work. The epic compositions, written by drummer Alberto De Grandis and keyboardist Alberto Bonomi, leave plenty of room for improvisation, but hew closely to tuneful outlines. Bonomi and guitarist Silvio Minella weave in and out of each other's virtuosity, creating a lush fabric of rich musical colors that never fails to engage. When either man solos, the break is equally impressive for its restraint as for its skill. De Grandis keeps the rhythm at a constant boil, with his jazzy cymbal work driving the sound as much as the kick drum; bassist Luca Baldassari holds steady, the pole off which the flags fly. "Trip on Metro," a piece that dates back to the group's early demos, shows a subtle Mahavishnu Orchestra influence, while "Pantera," "Caleidoscopio" and "Ragno" perfectly balance the blend of jazz rhythm, classical melody and rock firepower that is the hallmark of Italian progressive rock. Equally impressive and accessible, if this music is merely a work in progress, the final version will be drop-dead astonishing."

Do you honestly think I didn't try that already?

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 01:08 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a decent enough discogs entry for them that has a good slice of their remixes.

Xii (Xii), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 01:56 (twenty-two years ago)

That Spencer Chow already linked to. Hi, I'm dumb.

Xii (Xii), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 01:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha you're right Mr. Snrub that's useless, sorry. Try http://www.dfarecords.com/, it looks like they have a discography with little "buy now" buttons next to each one.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 02:01 (twenty-two years ago)

do you honestly think he hasn't tried that already?

This is something that has boggled my mind.

WHO ARE DFA? Are they a band? Producers? A record label? I keep seeing DFA re-mixes of other bands.

Do they have an album out?

David Allen (David Allen), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 06:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, I couldn't resist because I am prob the only one who reads that site and thinks of the band every time someone writes DFA.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 8 January 2004 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

What is this J.O.Y. track and where can I find it? Also: Britney track?!

flightsatdusk (flightsatdusk), Thursday, 8 January 2004 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

i love the j.o.y. song, one of my favorite dfa productions for sure. i have no idea what it's being released on. i just got a cdr of stuff from the dfa. and yeah, they did a song with britney that will never be released, which blows. it's very, very, very good.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 8 January 2004 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

note: colette No.5 is disc 2 of 2. and i have yanc3y to thank for that as well, the big sweety.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 8 January 2004 21:46 (twenty-two years ago)

and yeah, they did a song with britney that will never be released, which blows. it's very, very, very good.

It sounds to me like people have actually heard this track. So is it floating around SS and I just haven't been able to find it, or is there some other way I could find it? My gratitude would have no end.

mike h. (mike h.), Thursday, 8 January 2004 21:58 (twenty-two years ago)

i heard it at the dfa office. it hasn't leaked and i doubt that it will. they're very protective of it.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 8 January 2004 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

You know them?

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Sunday, 18 January 2004 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Mr. Snrub--how about the Rapture's Insound EP (w/ the original versions of "Heaven" and "House of Jealous Lovers")?

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 19 January 2004 00:11 (twenty-two years ago)

The DFA produced that? Up it goes, then!

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Monday, 19 January 2004 00:42 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a white label of Floetry "Getting Late (DFA Remix)."

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Monday, 19 January 2004 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

2004 will also see the release of a remix of Bellhead by Liquid Liquid, and possibly a full album as they've been recording sporadically with them.

Dr. Annabel Lies (Michael Kelly), Monday, 19 January 2004 01:59 (twenty-two years ago)

two weeks pass...
For those of you who wanted to hear the DFA mix of the J.O.Y. song with Yoshimi, I've got it here for a little while.
