Proto boyband has a Best of, a Very Best of, and Andy Warhol directed one of their videos. What is going here.

Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 04:11 (twenty-one years ago)

The singer with the really complicated name was on 'Kilroy' once with some genuine difficulty in life, can't remember what

dave q, Wednesday, 7 January 2004 11:05 (twenty-one years ago)

They played at my halls of Residence at University once (with Dr and the Medics and The Men they Couldn't Hang if I remember rightly), Ben Vol-au-vent was seen by his girlfriend/fiance snogging some other girl, she chucked her ring at him and he then spent the next hour looking for it on the grass outside the venue.....
They were shite by the way but I remember enjoying The Men They Couldn't Hang tremendously

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 18:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Having downloaded I report back: yes it's quite good, very of its time, liter-than-lite soulboy stuff, but catchy and not horrible.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

NED RAGGETT TO THREAD!!!!!!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Huh? I only remember the name, the goofy singer and a bit of the chorus of some song. Have I invoked them without my knowledge?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, come off it, you know you totally loved them.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 23:39 (twenty-one years ago)

where would De La Soul be without them? stuck at 3 feet, that's where

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, come off it, you know you totally loved them.

No, seriously, that's all I knew about them! Hell, I knew more about Johnny Hates Jazz!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, when will you learn to just PLAY ALONG? Jeez.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 23:48 (twenty-one years ago)

the idea of Ned playing along to 'Misfit'...

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 23:50 (twenty-one years ago)

*sigh* This thread is not my finest moment. (Curiosity Killed The Cat sounds like it should be the name of an LA glam band, anyway.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 23:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Kuriosity KATT!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Who was the boy band they had their "feud" with? Brother Beyond?

Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Thursday, 8 January 2004 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

"Shattered Dreams" is a fucking GREAT mainstream 80s pop song. Not a big fan of Tiffany. Don't know the rest.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Thursday, 8 January 2004 00:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Who the fuck is Curiosity Killed the Cat?

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Thursday, 8 January 2004 00:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I interviewed them once and Ben Volpeliere-Pierrot (sp?) gave me a pineapple. He was very drunk.

One of them (Mig the drummer I think) was in an Adam Ant video once. Ben is on the front of the Mike Read Pop Quiz board game (he used to be a model).

Down to Earth is a very nice song.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 8 January 2004 01:01 (twenty-one years ago)

every one of them was a ride - especially Ben VP ( as they used to call him in Smash Hits)

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 8 January 2004 03:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked "Name & Number" as De La Soul sampled it to neat effect on "Ring, Ring, Ring"

herbalizer12 (herbalizer12), Thursday, 8 January 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
I had no idea De La sampled them.

Anyway I found a mixed tape I made of songs my college-radio station played during an '80 show from 1996. "Misfit" was on it - catchy fluff. Why my college radio station played this in 1996 when they got off playing Sisters of Mercy and XTC in 1987 remains a mystery.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Friday, 4 March 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

I revived because, um, curiosity killed the cat...

I may have heard "Misfit" on MTV once but this band utterly escaped me. Did they sell any records here?

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Friday, 4 March 2005 21:06 (twenty years ago)

nine years pass...

most beautiful white boy band ever? possibly.

truly great dancing as well from Ben.

and Down to Earth is ALL TIME.

Acting Crazy (Instrumental) (jed_), Wednesday, 9 July 2014 00:58 (eleven years ago)
