Best Acid Rock Freakout On A 70's Punk Record

I was listening to Sham 69 early this morning (as i am likely to do) and other then reconfirm my love for the band and the oi-beat that they made famous, and make me wish someone would do a slamming bigbeat cover of Borstal Breakout(ATR's "The Kids Are United" reconfiguration wasn't enough for me), it got me thinking about examples of punkers going hippy. On Tell Us The Truth there is the stellar "Whose Generation!" and another good example would be the extended outro to the Jam's "In The Crowd" and the Buzzcocks had lots of backwards-guitar fuzzrock moments. Oh, i'm sure there are loads and that's where you come in. More please!

Funkadelic - Alice In My Fantasies

This tune predates, but bears quite a resemblance to, Anarchy in the UK, but nonetheless also includes a very over the top acid-type guitar solo.

I suppose this is more hippies going punker than vice versa, but the end result is still great.

See also: The Damned's cover of the MC5's "Looking At You" or the Stranglers' take on "Walk On By".

I'll take Funkadelic, but they really belong on the thread,"70's Hippypunk!Who Needs The Pistols?" cuz there are endless amounts of great 70's spacepunk a la funkadelic/hawkwind/krautrock/any one of a million hard rock bands before, during, and after 1976 that fit that bill.

Damn, Chrome is first thing that pops into my mind. Maybe not as straightahead punk as you're looking for though. Alien Soundtracks and Half Machine Lip Moves are from about '78/'79 aren't they?

Soft Boys to thread! Many songs.

I often think of the Pop Group as punk's Pink Floyd. But I could be crazy.

I didn't think this one would be such a toughy. maybe there aren't lots of examples. The Buzzcocks were really good at it though, weren't they?

OTM Nick B -- CHROME all the way.
The gtr. solo on Crime's "Hot Wire My Heart" is pretty acid-y, methinks.
Also "20 Seconds Over Tokyo" by RFTT/ Pere Ubu.
And let us not forget Alternative TV, the Mirrors, Electric Eels, Simply Saucer, Toy Dolls, Swell Maps, This Heat, et al.
