Luke Viberts Nouveau Disco project on Rephlex - the soundclips up on the rephlex site are extremely tantalising - from these alone this album sounds at least as good as Metro Area, possibly better. Anyone heard the whole thing?

i havent, but i like the name a lot. oh, i just realised, its possibly a tongue in cheek reference to metro area? in that case i still like the name, but slightly less so. i'll check out the clips

i am a bit worried (like, "amen andrews" isn't as good as the soundmurderer stuff, let alone say that remarc record, though "amen andrews" was still pretty good), but i'll still check it out, i think.

sometimes i think he can be a bit too "loopy" but, from what i have heard, this seems nicely restrained.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

just got a vinyl promo last night, and restrained is a good word. a lot less goofy than his other work, this is fairly straightforward funky 80's disco. i quite like it. not sure yet if it's anywhere as good as metro area, but that remains to be seen.

too right - the Metro Area LP took a while to reveal it's greatness to me.

"let's Dance and Freak" has got to be the track of the year so far for me, pure Disco heaven, there are some other belters on the record too like "Yesco" but, of course the whole thing sags slightly over 6 sides of vinyl. Anyone else feeling this?

I like "Disco Bus", but I think there's an element of quirkiness in the rest of the tracks that stops them from being excellent. Vibert's just too reliant on the goofy samples for my taste.

oh this is everything the soft pink truth album should've been and more. fruity stupid clown sexy funky camp-as-christmas excellence!

I misread the title as "Kennel District." Pavement on the brain...

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Thursday, 1 July 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I love it.

funnier if he'd called it the "derriere district".

between listening to this, amen andrews over the last few days (in head-to-head soundclash with remarc unreleased and kid606's kill sound) and my in-store listening experience with yosePh i've sadly concluded that vibert is no longer as "out" as he used to be.

he is getting lapped in the craziness race by his peers. what, is he mellowing out something?? i was hoping for more campiness :-(

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 1 July 2004 21:53 (twenty-one years ago)

craziness is overrated - if you go down that road and take a left you'll end up on Venetian Snares cul-de-sac.

I like this record but i dont listen to it much cos it's on 6 sides of vinyl. "Lets dance and Freak" is still the tune of the year for me though.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 1 July 2004 21:57 (twenty-one years ago)

DOH!!! ok you win.

but still ... most of vibert's stuff these days sounds like new compositions run through old vibert presets. is there anything on kerrier district that he didn't do on the tally ho! album?? i mean, except doin' it disco?

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 1 July 2004 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

he does spread himself too thinly but this is my favourite thing of his since "a polished solid" on Mo Wax.

KD2 is good, although it's one step away from Metro Area and one step towards Mylo/Linus Loves...
