Starts with a phone call...

Trying to remember a 70s/early-80s (?) song that begins with a phone conversation. A guy telling a girl that he misses her, then he sings about it. When stations play it, they don't always include the beginning phone stuff. If I remember correctly, the song may even go back to the phone conversation for a bit. Not sure if it would be considered disco.

Thanks,

"Clap for the Wolfman" by the Guess Who. Definitely disco.

Don't think so. It would be more of a Jermaine Jackson, or Junior, or The System type sound.

It's probably not "I Love You Suzanne" by Lou Reed. But hell, there's nothing wrong with reminding people about the video for that one (in which Lou proves he can dance and really make romance).

Correct, it's not Lou Reed. Go Lou, however.

Perhaps "Mr. Telephone Man" by New Edition? Or "Operator" by Midnight Star? I haven't heard either of those songs in well over a decade and can't remember if they feature actual conversation, but they might by worth looking into.

Midnight Star might work. Definitely in their era, and they have the right sound...

Thanks,

Nope, not Midnight Star. Operator is a decent song, but not the one I'm searching for. I also believe it might be a solo artist.

Any other insights into this. I've had much more obscure questions answered within a few hours. Have I stumped the panel???

That ELO song?

That would be "Telephone Line," but no one would mistake that for disco.

"Enfilade" by At the Drive-In starts with a phone call, but that's not disco either.....by a long shot.

"Walking in the rain with the one I love" the Love unlimited orchestra.

(The caller would be Barry White)

That one?

Not Barry White for sure. For lack of a better description, more along the tone of Jermaine Jackson.

Not sure who ELO is, but I'm looking for some samples to verify. Are they 70s/80s?

No, not ELO either.
