Inspired by What was the first sublow bass?

We all know what music was played in 70s clubs, what I would like to know is what the music sounded like.
Was there any low end bass?
What dB-levels where common?

If anyone in here is old enough to answer these questions
I'd be thankful.

I'm old enough but I was too concerned with picking up women and getting drunk to think about what the low end bass sounded like.

read an article once about the technical aspects of disco recordings as pioneered in philly [eg gamble & huff tunes such as "for the love of money"]

supposedly all sorts of innovations were made in the early 70s recording the hi hat, bass drum and bass guitar parts, which are the essential ingredients.

sorry cannot remember more

I always wondered whether dj's cared anything or at all about beat matching or any other dj stuff like that

I think that 12" Singles came about because they're able to convey more bass?

It think it was because people wanted to dance longer too.

As for "beat matching" there wasn't any of that dull, seamless mixing you get today where it's like listening to one long track with peaks and troughs but they did think about things like BPM.
