In anticipation of the single: Has the Rapture owed up to ripping Love is All from three different Big Star songs?

can some explain to me the Rapture? Saw them on Letterman and was very unipressed. granted I do like SOME melody.

They're a post-punk house party band with a weak singer. If their were more young sprats doing catchy Gang Of Four ripoffs (or imaginary Cure/Giorgio Moroder collabos) I probably wouldn't care about the Rapture much. But there aren't.

very "unipressed"!!!

haha you've just described pretty much every band to come out of new york in the past four years!

joday (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 8 January 2004 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

well I put the word catchy in there for a reason.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 8 January 2004 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

what, "mr. you're on fire mr." wasn't catchy?

joday (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 8 January 2004 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

It's been ages since I've heard the Liars, so I don't remember. But aside from them and maybe Les Savy Fav I'm having a hard time thinking of groups that sound specifically like Gang Of Four.

radio 4.

Matt Boch (Matt Boch), Thursday, 8 January 2004 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

No fair. Radio 4 are PIL

Les Savy Fav sound like Go4 if Go4 were totally fucking sloppy drunk, maybe.

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 8 January 2004 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Les Savy Fav always seemed kinda Lifter Pullerish in some ways, to me.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 8 January 2004 23:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I havent heard this can someone tell me what other two Big Star tracks have are in there then?

pete s, Thursday, 8 January 2004 23:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Radio 4 are like Gang of Four guitar riffs and a load of boring bullshit everywhere else + one song that sounds a bit like PiL, aren't they?

(I'm asking)

Ferrrrrrg (Ferg), Friday, 9 January 2004 00:09 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, which Big Star songs ?
('cause i won't be going out of my way to hear The Rapture any more than i have to)

george gosset (gegoss), Friday, 9 January 2004 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

and the Rapture song is called "love is all" .. ?

if it didn't rip these riffs from Big Star, would it have anything left to it ? I can probably work out the Big Star stuff if i do bother listening to The Rapture, but i'd rather not have to, as what i've heard sounded dead.

george gosset (gegoss), Friday, 9 January 2004 00:31 (twenty-two years ago)

and there's a radio station that just sounds like "PiL" ? that _would_ be boring radio, but in a whole new way.

george gosset (gegoss), Friday, 9 January 2004 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

House of Jealous Lovers sounds like a toss-away b side from a disco/funk band. Except any disco or funk song ever recorded by real disco/funk bands are all 100,000,000X better.

David Allen (David Allen), Friday, 9 January 2004 00:35 (twenty-two years ago)

LSV are pretty similar to LP, yeah, though even there there are loads of differences
