Indie Rock bands that are actually, generally happy

Indie rock bands wherein the music is uplifting, and the lyrics are happy. And it can't be like Elephant Six stuff, where they're classic "happy songs about sad things" or songs that sound happy but have sad undertones.

I honestly can't think of one. The closest Ive come is Flaming Lips, and even they fall into the sad undertones category, or at the very least whistful. I want fucking full-out, happy.

yeah but aside from the occasional dance group, what band or singer ever was ALWAYS happy? I'm sure even KC and the Sunshine Band had a ballad of yearning now and then.

Freezepop - really like that Japanese song they have (can't remember the name). Reminds me of the Future Bible Heroes' "How to Get Laid in Japanese".

A lot of Belle and Sebastian's recent stuff is pretty happy. And they usually seem pretty damn happy when they play it. And it makes me grin like an idiot when they do. Does that count?

Rick Spence (spencerman), Thursday, 8 January 2004 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

No, because they are demons. (Note this is neither a positive or negative response.)

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 8 January 2004 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't think that the boredoms (come to think of it, there are some somber p5 songs on the few albums i've heard) are necessarily happy. there's something greater than happiness going on there.
