Keane -- what the fuck?

Oh please. Is this a Coldplay for people who find their music too loud and punishing or something?

They were also tipped by Virgin Radio executive producer James Curran, who said the band had an "immense musical sensibility for melody and a lead singer with a voice that soars and sweeps majestically".

JEFF BUCKLEY IS DEAD, DAMMIT, DEAD!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 9 January 2004 05:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i quite like Keane, but then they were Fierce Panda recording artistes so i feel compelled to.

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 9 January 2004 05:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm partial to Bil.

dylan (dylan), Friday, 9 January 2004 07:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I had hoped this was a thread about Roy releasing a record. I shall be weeping in the corner if you want me.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 9 January 2004 08:55 (twenty-two years ago)

They are Travis meets Erasure. And very nice in an utterly horrible way.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 9 January 2004 09:45 (twenty-two years ago)

HIS NAME IS TIM RICE-OXLEY!!!!! Hahahahahaha

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Friday, 9 January 2004 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Keane will be this year's Dido, possibly.

On the plus side, Wiley comes in at number three. Are Franz Ferdinand any good, then?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 9 January 2004 09:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I guarantee that Geir would luv Keane as they make melodic music.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 9 January 2004 10:09 (twenty-two years ago)

That Franz Ferdinand single is great.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 9 January 2004 10:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah Franz Ferdinand are really nice. Also worth looking out for at number 7 is McFly, sort of a surf version of Busted.

Kier, Friday, 9 January 2004 10:38 (twenty-two years ago)

"sort of a surf version of Busted."

BEST THING EVER!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 9 January 2004 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Matt I want you to review McFly's album for me, if they have one.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 9 January 2004 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I just have.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 9 January 2004 10:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow. So you have.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 9 January 2004 10:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Franz Ferdinand - I am really, really liking their single now. Yet when I saw them live, it sounded rubbish. Intrigued again, I think. Certainly set to be Domino's biggest artists already.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 9 January 2004 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Franz Ferdinand seem pretty pointless.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 9 January 2004 11:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Nah, it's like The Beatles & The Prodigy at once.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 9 January 2004 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Just what the world's been waiting for, clearly

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Friday, 9 January 2004 11:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Keane are pretty good, thought they could do with a guitar. Pleasant, yes, but good songs and an incredible voice.

Franz Ferdinand are more exciting though, really looking forward to their album.

Chris Jones (Crackity Jones), Friday, 9 January 2004 20:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no interest in Keane. However, I just downloaded everything I could find by or featuring Wiley. Very very good.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 9 January 2004 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Come on then, how many of these are going to have a top 20 single, a top 40 singles, a top 60 single, and then get dropped?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 9 January 2004 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Wiley's got his pseudonym because he has the voice and legs of a man.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 9 January 2004 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Keane are really, really good. Honest.

I haven't actually ever seen one of their singles for sale, but having dl'd everything I could find, I can't wait to buy the album.

Pretty fed up that now everyone will know about them. Oh well...

five years pass...

The great thing about the quote Ned opened this thread with is that it's not that dude's a bad singer; it's that he simply can't sing.

At least putting all that crap in the five year anniversary edition means the 25th anniversary edition ought to be really special.

Maybe a free piano, or something. Maybe Tom Chaplin will give away his mum.

James Mitchell, Tuesday, 29 September 2009 10:35 (sixteen years ago)

"Wow very cool!!! The album is full of content!!! Will buy it for sure, thanks!!!"

James Mitchell, Tuesday, 29 September 2009 10:43 (sixteen years ago)

1. I already have this album
2. I hardly ever play additional discs on deluxe editions
3. Remastering an album from 2004 is pointless

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 11:06 (sixteen years ago)

Geir: It's not even been remastered, just repackaged (it looks like a book!) with a load of live tracks and obscurities that I'm sure most hardcore fans will already have. There is also a STRICTLY LIMITED EDITION deluxe bundle which includes a t-shirt and a STRICTLY LIMITED signed art print for £120.

Any good, Chris? I read an interview with the fella which managed to make it sound like quite an interesting departure for them.

xp haha at Geir. ANyway, if there was ever a band who needed a remastering, Keane are that band.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 15 May 2010 21:26 (sixteen years ago)

I've only heard Stop For A Minute (one of the K'naan tracks), and I heard My Shadow when it first leaked a couple of years ago. Not impressed, although if there's anything as fun and ridiculous as Spiralling on there I may be willing to part with some cash.

Chris, Sunday, 16 May 2010 00:59 (sixteen years ago)

There's not. It's pretty bland. I gave it a shot for the K'naan connection and was really disappointed.
