TS: Tom Verlaine's "Kingdom Come" vs. David Bowie's "Kingdom Come"

sanity vs. insanity? Pleasantly smiling vs. giggling with disbelief?

btw, does anybody know if Bowie was, like, self-aware when he was recording his vocals? It sounds like he's got blood pouring out of both nostrils. Freddie Mercury with a horrible case of laryngitis, strung out on heaven's blow and hitting an all-time high note. It's so fascinating I'd probably prefer it to Verlaine's original. But is it a joke? The only recent thing that compares at all is those occasional moments on Rock'n'Roll (the climaxes of "Is This It" and "So Alive") where Ryan Adams voice gets unconscionably nagging or amateurish (which are probably the most fascinating moments on the album). But, fuck, that place that Adams visit for a couple seconds is where Bowie set up roost on "Kingdom Come." Any info on the creation of the track is very welcome.

Bowie's vocal on that track IS pretty over-the-top.

Insider trading:

The Lizards almost = SIR LORD BALTIMORE

two weeks pass...
bump. I refuse to believe nobody has an opinion about this song. It's one of Tom Verlaine's finest solo numbers and one of Bowie's most jaw-dropping vocal performances. And just for all this tangental bullshit I'm never gonna buy a Dick Destiny album.

Doing a bit of youtubing because of the 2nd Scary Monsters poll and came upon this:

"so I did it as sort of a nod of the head to Ronnie Spector, really, very slightly, somebody else that I admire tremendously"
