Get yer blinkers off!

Having enjoyed the St.Etienne comp, "Smash The System" all weekend, I'm only just beginning to realize how fantastic most of their stuff is. Why did I miss out until now? The reason is that having heard "You're In a Bad Way" on release (1993?) I hated it so much that I totally ignored them afterwards, thus missing out on a decade of great pop. (I'm still not keen on the track btw)

Have you ever done the same thing - belately catching up with some good music years after hearing something awful?

Story (or musical?) of my life. Only recently discovered Neil Young.

I did exactly the same with St Etienne, despite loving Only Love Can Break Your Heart.

With Neil Young, Nathalie, you'll soon have those blinkers back on again pretty damn quickly, mark my words!

Yeah, Soft Cell. Not that "Tainted Love" was awful, but I was sick to death of it in a very short time. And the other songs I heard out at clubs, "Memorabilia" and "Bedsitter", didn't really do it for me. So I missed out on seeing one of my favorite bands and enjoying them while they were in their prime. I didn't really get them until a couple of years after they'd broken up.

A fair amount of pop, and Bob Dylan.

Although I'm still angry that I've been made to like Bob Dylan, and take it as a sign I'm going soft in my old age. Damn, it was far more fun hating the bastard...

Stevie T stuck 'Born On A Train' on a tape for me in, um - late 97. I never even noticed it. I think I blame the quality of his stereo. Nonetheless, he was right about Merritt, and I was wrong.
