Good movies about music: Mo' Better Blues (under-rated), 'Round Midnight, Spinal Tap (naturally), even The Doors.

Music about movies: Makes me think of Iron maiden, for whatever that's worth.

Has anyone seen Crossroads where Ralph Macchio has an electric guitar show down with Steve Vai in a climactic battle for their immortal souls? It is perfect.

'Wild in the Streets', for the bit where everyone over 25 is put in a LSD camp where they're force-fed acid all day.

"Phantom of the Paradise"? A horror musical by Brian DePalma, with Paul Williams (?) actually good (!?)as the villian, and ("introducing") Jessica Harper as the doe-eyed girl trying to break into the music business. Why aren't there more horror musicals?

Spinal Tap was my fave, but Sid & Nancy was good too.

Phantom of the Paradise also famous for being the source of all those goofy samples in Bauhaus' "Party of the First Part."

"Who are you?"

"MY CARD...PRETTY LADY!"

In "Chipmunk's Greta Adventure" Alvin & the gang topple the Berlin wall with the power of Rock And Roll. Top that!

"Remember all the movies, Terri, we'd go see/ trying to learn how to walk like the heroes we thought we had to be/ and after all this time to find we're just like all the rest/ stranded in the dark and forced to confess to/ hiding on the backstreets."

-Springsteen, "Backstreets."

Other good movies quotes from songs?

"Ta-a-ake i-i-it OFF! Ta-a-ake i-i-t ALL OFF!" - Van Halen, "Dirty Movies"

dave q, Wednesday, 26 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Silver screen, such a disgrace/ I couldn't look her straight in the face/ A blue addiction, I live in disgust/ Degradation being eaten by lust...Voyeur straining, in love with his hand/ X-rated demon, a pulsating gland..." - Ozzy Osbourne, "No Bone Movies"

Amadeus, Hard Core Logo and Spinal Tap all rock. Music about movies has darn, all I can think of is Thrush Hermit's "From The Back of The Film"

"Cable Hogue" by John Cale distills the punch of the opening scenes onto new terrain with none of the humor and heart of the rest of the film. "Teen Suicide" by Unrest distills Heathers. "Berlin" by Lou Reed and "Prince Among Thieves" by Prince Paul as music which is movies, and thus about in the broad sense. "New Age" by The Velvets about the relationship of movies to the audience's dreams. "Can I have your autograph, he said, to the fat blonde actress." On the other end, "All Over Me" as distilling riot ennui. Back to music, "The Hot Rock" by Sleater Kinney transforming cinema into not one but TWO metaphors (love and music).

'Strange Movies' by the Troggs, stupidest and best music about movies? Good scream, anyway.

Fear of a Black Hat is an amazing fake "rap-umentary" and one of the funniest movies I've ever seen...

Movies about music=Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls=best movie of all time ever!

Music about movies=hmm, I'm sure I'm missing some really obvious ones, but the only things I can think of right now are 'He Took Her To A Movie' and 'I'm In Love With A German Filmstar'.

four months pass...
music about movies. UNMEN Love Under Water released on Some Bizzare 1992, makes Ben Hur look like an epic.

Has anyone mentioned HARD CORE LOGO yet? Several times? Oh, well, yeah. That's cause it's great. I like Spinal Tap just fine, but Hard Core Logo gets the balance right between the humour and the realism-- you can actually believe that this is a washed up punk band reuniting for one last run at the money. (Of course, it probably doesn't hurt that the lead singer of this band was played by Hugh Dillon of punk- influenced band The Headstones, so he had the whole rock and roll bad boy thing down pat ahead of time.) Now if only they'd release a proper version on DVD...the one I keep seeing is twice as expensive as I'm willing to shell out for, especially considering the fact that they supposedly butchered it in editing for the DVD version, which is just criminal.

More music about movies:

Celluloid Heroes - the Kinks
Debaser - The Pixies

and uuuuhhh.. Dark Side of the Moon - (It's about the Wizard of Oz, innit?)

Oh, and
"She went into the Movies, She's Been there ever since. She walked out to the lobby, for a box of Junior Mints."

Eiffel Tower High - Husker Du.

Real By Reel - XTC (Is surveillance considered a "movie"?)
