Currently enjoying the Culture Club Culture mix, and looking forward to seeing them here soon. What of Serie Noire-Dark Beat 1 and 2, are they good?

(The second CD on the Culture Club Culture mix is Troubleman's mix, pretty weird tracklist but it's nice to see something new. Also worth discussing)

the glimmer twins serie noire comp (#2) was one of my favorites of 2003. it has a rather eclectic tracklist which might be a turn off to some, but i really like it. it's a very well sequenced comp that's for sure. lots of sleazy and rare late 80ies/ early 90ies dance and most of the comp is mixed at under 120bpm.

http://www.cultureclub.be has some mixes that are def worth checking.

disco stu (disco stu), Saturday, 17 January 2004 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah I was struck by the mixing on the above mix, it's very freshly done, not technically perfect but they really cram a lot of tracks in there. I am very anxious to see them play.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 17 January 2004 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah that looks really good, just up my street - all those eskimo mixes are great (except maybe Eskimo4 which is still decent) esk1 and 2 are my favourite mixes ever.

jed_ (jed), Saturday, 17 January 2004 21:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw them today actually, I might pick them up on that recommendation. The second mix there is great, what a fresh tracklist, I mean I could do without Phil Collins but currently it's making being in on a Saturday alot easier than it should be.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 17 January 2004 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

its always good to see extremely unlikely things on a mix cd though - phil collins!

disco stu (disco stu), Saturday, 17 January 2004 21:46 (twenty-two years ago)

including phil collins is unforgiveable imo but glimmer twins are totally ace djs - see them if you get a chance. ghent - responsible for so much!

i prefer seie 1 to 2 but then i've not heard the actual mix versions, just the vinyl comps. will investigate.

there will be an optimo eskimo comp late in 2004, provisionally titled 'glasvegas grind'. it will be proceeded by ivan smagge and headman comps

stirmonster, Sunday, 18 January 2004 03:57 (twenty-two years ago)

just noticed, phil collins is on the troubleman comp. glimmer twins - all is forgiven!

stirmonster, Sunday, 18 January 2004 03:59 (twenty-two years ago)

anybody who appreciates Gino Soccio is alright by me, and can marry my sister anytime.

Jedmond, Sunday, 18 January 2004 04:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Twitch is that How To Kill The DJ Part 2 thing still on the cards?

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 January 2004 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

that my little pony has amazingly large testicles.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 18 January 2004 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

and man that troubleman mix looks great.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 18 January 2004 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Just listening to it now, I cleaned the whole house quickly so it must be good.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 January 2004 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

ronan - it is indeed. licensing all the tracks we want to use has proved to be a bit of a nightmare and held it up endlessly. we're hoping it'll be out around april.

stirmonster, Sunday, 18 January 2004 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Alot to live up to after the Smagghe one, haha, I'll have to check it out.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 January 2004 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Where can I direct one of my friends or relatives in the UK to get this mix? There are some overly familiar songs, but it appeals to my inner mix addict. Same goes for your Optimo comps, Twitch.

Barima (Barima), Sunday, 18 January 2004 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

inner mix addict

Tell me about it!

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 January 2004 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Serie Pop 2 (or whatever it's called) is great - esp. the rocky second track with the insano femme vocals. But those mixes up there look even better!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 19 January 2004 00:41 (twenty-two years ago)

three weeks pass...
The troubleman mix above is absolutely sensational.

Best section

13 n.e.r.d. lapdance (original mix)
14 busta rhymes fire it up
15 crooklyn clan presents choose one da ladies
16 chaka demus & pliers murder she wrote
17 stone love allstars party in session
18 sean paul get busy

That Crooklyn Clan track is ace, it's like Alan Braxe in the ghetto, somewhere between Dnb minus all the percussion and house with a nice rap over it.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 13 February 2004 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

"feeeeeeel the beat just bam bam bam bam bam bam come on, one time feel the beat just bam bam bam bam"

etc.

brilliant.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 13 February 2004 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

wah, is the smagghe one out? i can't find it anywhere, i just want to get it for the testone remix. serie noir 2 is patchy i reckon, but worth it for the ups, that 'death disco' remix makes pil sound the most krautrock they've ever sounded. and adonis, 'no way back'!

nebbesh (nebbesh), Friday, 13 February 2004 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

It is out yeah, I saw it around recently.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 13 February 2004 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

in tha iar tonight by phil collins is a GOOD record!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 13 February 2004 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Stelfox OTM.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 13 February 2004 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I have to say I never turn it off. It's kind of eerie and affecting, I guess that's the desired effect.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 13 February 2004 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

those drums!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 13 February 2004 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

DURN-DURN-da-DURN-DURN-DURN-da-DURN

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 13 February 2004 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

best fill ever?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 13 February 2004 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

(haha charlie watts is turning over in his grave)

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 13 February 2004 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

hahaha that's creepy I just clicked on this thread as it went DURN DURN-da

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 13 February 2004 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Can't forget the guitar

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEENGH

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 13 February 2004 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

collins may be a revolting, punchably smug bastard of a man and he may have made some utter, irredeemable shit in his time, but he's not as bad as people make him out to be.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 13 February 2004 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
i picked up "club culture 3" last week and UNGGGGGHHHHH THE HOTTTTTNESSSSSSS

DJ troubleman (disc 2) absolutely kills it!!!

disc 1 - not mixed by glimmer twins anymore but instead some belgian dudes who may as well be the glimmers - kill it too! electroclash ain't dead!

vahid (vahid), Friday, 14 April 2006 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

yeah I like that one except I think the Starski and Tonic mix is kind of shoddily mixed, I don't like stuff being in for like 2 minutes or whatever. it's good though still. There's a 4th one too I think, which might be the Glimmers again, I forget!

The first one is definitely still the best though.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 14 April 2006 21:44 (nineteen years ago)

That Crooklyn Clan track is ace, it's like Alan Braxe in the ghetto, somewhere between Dnb minus all the percussion and house with a nice rap over it.

i have been singing the praises of AV8 for awhile now, i even uploaded a "best of" one time but nobody even commented!

vahid (vahid), Friday, 14 April 2006 21:49 (nineteen years ago)

21. Rick James "Cold Blooded"
22. Dizzee Rascal "Stand Up Tall"
23. Freestylers "Push Up"

listening to this in the cafe, "working". is TLP trying to hypnotize me into doing something embarassing? must ... control ... shoulders ...

vahid (vahid), Friday, 14 April 2006 22:18 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah the new one is Starski & Tonic again I think.
