Marissa Machant OTM for once...

OK, We're all bored with this now. I haven't heared the radio interview, and my interest is drawing to a close. However, I looked one more time to her 'gigs' page/rant page, and this is today's entry.

Heck, this is as close to "On the mark" as she will ever be. For what it's worth, I dont think using music for social reasons is a bad thing. And a number of individual points are worth disagreeing with. But as the irish say, Fair play to her.

Go-head miss marchant..

There are no Up'coming Performances

I have analyzed the public. They listen to music for social reasons only. They desire to feel part of the crowd and the masses. They want to socialize and feel that they are part of the tribe. But people who listen to music for the shere sake of finding music interesting and inspiring will not just talk about famous people all the time. They will talk about obscure music. They will talk about obscure styles of music, not mainstream and not even indie. I can tell what the values are of a person, just by what kind of music they are listening to. When someone is listening to obscure music from all over the world, that means that they are opened to music and interesed in music for the sake of music. When they want to know how many records the person sold and how popular they are, I know that the person worships money, not talent. When they talk about record deals and not great music, I know they don't appreciate talent or music for the sake of music. When they donate to obscure talents, it is shows that the interest in music is much deeper then just talking about people who are well known in this country. Even other countries have their stars and people in those countries don't look any further. People who look way outside of the realm of their own socialization, and environs, are people who are sincerely interested in art and music. That is why I am mixing obscure world music into my songs now. The recordings on my site are nothing compared to what I am writing. I support very obscure talents. Do you? Do you care about music or just money? When people talk about nothing else but famous american or british talents, I think that the person is completely braindead. When people are not interested in world music that means they are not interested in music period. Because if the only music that someone can listen to has to be something that they were brought up with, then they are not really seeking music, but socialization in their environs. The reason that people talk so much about American megastars, is because they are not interested in music, but feeling cool and part of the crowd. People are insecure that they listen to music for only social purposes and they aren't interested in foreign music because they want friends in this country. The public is so primitive in their ways of thinking, that I had 10 thousand people on my site in a few hours because my prices were 1000 dollars a cd, and they were apalled. But they don't feel excited about talent, just numbers. That is how braindead our society is. They accused me of not loving music, when they wouldn't support me, even if I didn't ask for any money. They accuse people of not loving music, because they are projecting their own disinterest in music. I love music, they don't. They are not talking about how talented people are, but numbers and status. Their line up is bunch of circus freak and talentless circus freaks. The public is still talking about them. It is ludicrious! Pigs nustling at their breast, tatoos all over, wearing nothing but socks on stage, grabbing themselves, wearing lingerie, humping the floor, wearing t shirts that say bang on them, and they will do anything but learn the art of singing and playing an instrument or writing great music. They do neither. And people are still impressed with Micheal Jackson, and Madonna, and all the rest, even though they are as weird as hell, and talentless. Peace to you, Marissa Marchant

what a fucking psychotic.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 18 January 2004 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

the only part that verges on right is "music for music's sake" but she contradicts this by waffling on about talent yadda yadda yadda.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 January 2004 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

even though they are as weird as hell

Pot meet kettle etc.

Veers all over the place a bit, doesn't she? Reminds me a more manic Julie Burchill without the jokes (well, intentional jokes anyway).

That post that Momus did a while ago about there being a great deal of interest in music, but the only thing that gets 'noticed' is the mainstream umm etcetera (I'd post/link it but can't remember where it lives).

The part about pigs nustling onwards I consider irrelevant rubbish. My 'praise' is for the stuff before.

Pigs nustling at their breast

Is she taking a shot at Tori Amos here?

Circus Freak and Talentless Circus Freaks. What a name that would be for a band.

Anyhow, then this happens...

"God told me that the Christian music industry sucks. That God isn't a man, and that I was deceived. God told me that this culture sucks and that you are musically illiterate and not to share my music with you, because you are wicked and love evil music by evil so called artists. Have your yahoo music and all your evil music. At least I get to hear new fresh and great songs. But you don't. I have written tons of new songs on a much higher level then what is on my site. Since you think that the people in the music industry deserve grammys and that there is no reason to support high level musicians, I am keeping my newly recorded songs to myself. Peace to you, Marissa Marchant"

Does her site sell these bang t-shirts? I'll take 5.

omg, Tuesday, 20 January 2004 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I see a Friends TV movie in 15 years featuring David Schwimmer in a two-sizes-too-small white t-shirt that reads MARISSA SAYS BANG.

one month passes...
revive, sort of.

OK, so I have been 'keeping up' with her messageboard. She'd got some equipment, adding drums/bass to some of her songs, added one of them (updated) to the Music page. Her messageboard praising a number of pretty obscure talents, notably a french folk band called Kornog. Suddenly, a rant appeared about how all men are bad women haters, that Kornog (all male) could well be just as bad as any of them, so she's withdrawn all reccomendations, and then.. nothing. No updates for two weeks or so. Very quiet. something seems not right (more so than usual anyway)...

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 19 March 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

have you got a link to her messageboard? i can't find one on her site.

ta.... i thought this was all a hoax, but the more i find out the more i think this person really exists, the singlemindedness is quite disturbing, isn't it? she seems to have posted about herself to every conceivable messageboard, heres my favourite so far from the dido yahoo group (help i'm getting obsessed!)

Dido is marketable like burger king and walmart..
Dido is marketable because she isn't a genius and can't sustain
notes and has no range..and no extreme beauty in her voice..
she is very limited in her talents..
and she is not gorgeous.
They sell her art at a cheap price because we are in the dark
ages..her art is cheap quality..and this woman is not a fine
artist...
here is a real artist...and a gorgeous woman who is five nine..
this proves how anti looks and anti talent the record companies have
become..
Dido is a dido of sarah...and I saw her last night on a show and I
went ot sleep..
she is was pleasant..but not great..or wonderful..she looks like an
average girl next door..like all of them..

here is the real deal...
www.marissamarchant.com selling for 1000 dollars a cd..
this is a real artist.
they are not..
love eres garcia

zappi (joni), Friday, 19 March 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I hadn't seen that one. the 'eres garcia' is a very old 'name', she has gone under 'Kevin' ("Kevin" was quite a nice chap, 'he' emailed me once), and "Peter Rabbit"

The messages in the past have been quite lucid, have shown clarity of viewpoint (like the one above), and then have gone down to mad abuse. Her music is actually not bad. but if she was coming up the garden path, I'd be on a motorcycle I don't own...)

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 19 March 2004 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Let's see if I've got this straight:

The new stuff that I'm working on much better than anything on my Web site, which I'm charging $1000 for.

Gee, you're not buying the stuff on my Web site. Obviously, it's because you don't know anything about talent.

Is that about it?

When I read the phrase "world music," I stop immediately. You know, Senegalese, Bulgarian, Japanese, Mexican - that single genre. Sheesh.
