I saw someone wearing a Strokes t-shirt the other day and struck up a brief conversation with him... should I start a new thread?

yeah so solid are amazing.

that no good tune is rela nice might have to try and find that somewhere.....

are they a 'band'?

ambrose, Friday, 28 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

band? nah. they're a crew. ;) said magazine reffed them as "band" tho.

note: said magazine was glossy yookay dance foddah. i'm sure it was a puff piece with all buff, grimacy photos. (didn't read.) although they did call them "uk dance's new hardcore" which is MUCHO promising if nothing else.

note the second: yookay glossy dance foddah is better than amurrican glossy dance foddah which has a veneer of "seriousness" (xlr8r anyone?) making them EVEN WORSE.

completely agreed there, Jess, though that's largely because the amurrikanz have a different sort of relationship to the scene--since the shit's not really all that popular here, we tend to be more defensive about liking it, whereas it's the dominant kultcha in the yookay and folks're more relaxed about it. you could also say that u.s. music writing tends to be more theoretical overall, too, and that has its effect. or maybe they just get better e over there.

The SSC article I saw was in the The Face. No surprise then: good flashy classy design, terribly lame (though not actually offensively bad) writing.

To my ears they are pretty boring, but then I think Garage should = Mono Men, Mummies etc.

"21 Seconds" is one of the singles of the year. "Oh No" is good but I think I downloaded the wrong mix. They feel good and exciting and interesting to me - can they sustain it? Don't know.
