Have you listened to the mp3s? Finer pop I haven't heard in quite a while.

Yeah, although apparently Bob and David had Radiohead in mind when they did it.

See, I've finally heard Smoosh and of course I think they're the greatest thing ever. But I *would*.
I am glad that the RCKRGRL Summer Rock Camp has produced something some bubbley and fanastic. They are like the personification of Daisy Guitars. Even though they have no guitars.

new album out toward the end of next month; you can hear a bunch of clips from it here.
seems like they've made a conscious move away from the cute bubblegumminess of their earlier stuff, which would be disappointing if they didn't have such a knack for airy piano ballads like this one:

also, dope drum fills:

(clip is a couple years old, but w/e)

thread reminded me i saw them do a live instore a few years ago. they reminded me of mates of state. i find the first album a bit unbearable though tbh

yeah, their debut is patchy as hell, but I'll gladly defend "Rad" to the death. they worked best as a novelty act at that point, and the serious, singer-songwritery songs on that album are way weaker than the ones on Free to Stay.

the new album is streamable on their website now. shame about the title and artwork.
it's pretty much all ethereal, mid-tempo, soulsearching stuff, which I happen to be in the mood for at the moment. there are some brilliant touches in the arrangements, like the interlocking drum machine/drum kit lines in "The World's Not Bad", the dinky melodica that transitions seamlessly into a trumpet solo at the end of "In The Fall", and all of "Call of the Mid Afternoon". memorable melodies are still somewhat lacking & a couple songs are too earnest and stately for my liking, but they've improved tremendously in terms of texture and song structure since they abandoned the "live in studio" approach of their first two albums.

only about 15 people are likely to ever hear this, obv.

best feelgood indie singalong closing track since OTC's "Hilltop Procession"? I like the section from about 2:30 onward where the kick drum cuts out completely, then starts playing 3 beats intermittently, then comes back in full force during that extended coda.
