Surely you watched them, didn't you? Oh wait, maybe you didn't. Never mind, David did for you and has this to say...

we'll all get those reponses eventually... aren't you supposed to working on your novel anyway? I have all of 0 words written so far.

Actually, I'm supposed to be working. Shhhh.

David Raposa, Friday, 2 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, I think you took them a bit seriously, maybe a bit too seriously. It's just a pointless show, really.

Ally, Friday, 2 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah, I know. In retrospect, it does seem a bit silly to take such a strident stance on what is really a 3-hour piece o' fluff. That's probably the one thing that irks me about the article.

But, hey, thanks for reading.

David Raposa, Friday, 2 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

actually, i think that the article - cranky, cantankerous, "pointless" or not - is valid precisely because "it's just a stupid show." mtv media monopoly, commidifcation of desire, lowest common denom, yadda yadda...i can't tell if post 9/11 we're less numbed to this shit or moreso. i suppose the question david inadvertently raises is in our brave new, strange new world, is "entertainment" so low on our priorities that it continues to run unchecked, unquestioned, or do we begin to resist rampant commercialism, free market insanity, fucked up values systems etc.

Ok, I was just teasing fishing-for-comments Dave, hello, thanks. I think all this sort of thing shows, I mean just looking at posts on both ILM and - dear god, if you even dare - ILE shows that post 9/11 everyone's too damn sensitive and argumentative and very focused on very, very trivial things, like the people on this board that seem real suddenly focused on posting to every Britney thread (for example) with "Britney's crap anyhow, why don't you listen to Merzbow!" or something to that affect, or the guy who emailed me REALLY PISSED OFF! that I posted about Duran Duran. Maybe this has been around this place forever though and I just haven't noticed it til now.
