i think sweet dreams (are made of this) is lovely dark grimy and loads of synth bass noises.

the newer stuff (after 87/ 'we two are one') seems a bit weak, but i still like it on nostalgic grounds.

but are they actually crap?

i think of them as synth pop. but they dpont seem to have any of the credibility as all their contempories.

and most importantly, have i spelt their name right?

Search: Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), Here Comes the Rain Again

Destroy: Everything else

And it's Eurythmics.

Very affected by MOR-itude, like the Pretenders. Starts up New Wave, releases interesting, era-defining singles (you know which ones), then does some kind of crossover after hitting it big (England, Bret Easton Ellis' campus, Europe, USA, Singapore). Starts making "80s white soul" records, duets with Aretha, does stunning video ("Missionary Man") thanks to La Lennox's statuesque figure. Realises things aint what they used to be. The audience had realised that as well.

Becomes a Spritual Cowboy. Goes solo. Both suck.

"Here Comes the Rain Again" and "Sweet Dreams" do as well in a goth club as in a supermatket alley nowadays.

Search the Eurythmics' Singles, scrap the rest. Nobody really cares anyway.

actually i meant this to be a classic or dud, but i 'spose 'search Or destroy' works as well.

here comes the rain again...is that on 'be here tonight'?

The missing link between Poly Styrene and Sharleen Spiteri.

Then again, 'Savage' was OK, even if it is the most over-represented record in bargain-bin land. There weren't any horns on it, see?

Savage and In the garden are pretty good (but not essential) as is, well pretty much everything when they were synthy. She works much better as an ice queen rather than when she tries to be a soul diva.

This is where Eurythmics: Classic or Dud was done before, in case you're interested.

Billy: you said it. Surely La Lennox has a good voice, but she's an ice queen through and through. I thought her duet with Aretha was awful, a total mis-match. Aretha can't be anything but soulful, no matter how much Lennox oversings, she comes across mannered and stiff. If only she'd play to her strenghts, she'd be a lot better, IMHO.

yer rhythm hicks -

Had a few moments, but shall be relegated to the discount bins... I always found them to be pretentious and dull... but I respect them nonetheless.
