I've been invited to a "dress as an albbum cover" fancy-dress party this Saturday - I am lazy/inspirationally challenged and can't think of anything to do...

...so, your thoughts?

The only criteria are:

1. it has to cost no more than £10 to create, preferably a lot less ie. nothing
2. I'd prefer something abstract ie. not just a person who haappens to be on the sleeve (otherwise I'd be doing Aladdin Sane obv)

Post your pic suggestions and (if you can) methods of creattion!

No no no, wear something large, bent and yellow, made from cardboard, plastic bags vel sim. And stick the Warhol signature on, to heighten chances of recognition. Also:

Adam & Joe Go Tokyo style (you dress up as Kym Marsh, then have cardboard cutouts of Danny & Myleene's heads on your right shoulder, and Noel and Suzanne's on the left).

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

White jeans (or pants), white socks, a white T-shirt or long-sleeve (with a nicely stenciled little number) and, if you want, white makeup, and you can go as "The Beatles (The White Album)."

Haha, I know who's party this is!!! My suggestion to someone else I know who is going was to go sans blazer - ta da - No Jacket Required (no cash required for this either U&K).

Sadly I don't know the who's/whose/whos rules of grammar. I think I was vaguely invited but thought I would only know one other person (in real actual life) who was turning up! Blimey.

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Derek & Clive is a good one.

The rest are frankly rub. Although the Black Sabbath one might be a giggle.

Starry, are you sure you know whose party this is? Do we share friends I'm not aware of?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Dress in red t-shirt/white trousers, vice versa, with a friend

any of the white stripes album covers

jellybean (jellybean), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I did say I wanted somehow to dress *NOT* as a person if at all possible...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

True. However, the "two persons" idea of jellybean neatly evades this, I think.

OleM (OleM), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it in a sunny south-east London location Charlie?

If so, I have already claimed "Tarkus".

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 29 January 2004 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't you go everywhere as a Stereolab cover already? ;)

Kate Jane Connolly (fixitgirl), Thursday, 29 January 2004 10:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Funny funny, actually as it happens, the duophonic logo isn't on any of their covers I don't think - only on spines and backs. And the holder of said party has already second-guessed that plan of action and promised I'll not be allowed in if I turn up and say "look at my arm, I'm loads of Stereolab records!" Pah.

Starry, the party's in Canada Water-ish. Who d'you know then?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 29 January 2004 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Duophonic logo is the front cover of Peng! surely?

Ricardo (RickyT), Thursday, 29 January 2004 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

oh sorry, i mean the newer one, post-Dots And Loops.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 29 January 2004 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah, got you.

Ricardo (RickyT), Thursday, 29 January 2004 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha! I have forgotten his real actual name. I have forgotten his ladyfriends name too, I may have been slightly inebriated when this tangled web of peons was explained to me, you see. THE BLOKE of the party anyway.

Friend of a friend stuff eh marvullon.

I guess if you had a hairy back you could go as Surfer Rosa but I wouldn't know about that sort of thing. Hard hat = meat is murder? i'm sure you'd be allowed to come as the Hey Ya video, if you can find some green braces.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 29 January 2004 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Metal Box or Tusk?

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 29 January 2004 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Hairy Back = Come On Pilgrim!

Pedantry Dept (RickyT), Thursday, 29 January 2004 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Jimi Hendrix, Electricladyland, old cover.

Russell Dixon (Skinny), Thursday, 29 January 2004 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

They're all the same to me, mate!

bought them as a two parter instead of old gits who bought them seperately innit, Thursday, 29 January 2004 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

So, a horrible hangover on Saturday meant I didn't leave the house til 4pm, and thus had very little time to scour charity shops for the requisite pink trousers/hat and yellow t-shirt combo to create my finally chosen album cover (a good idea and a brilliant record too)

http://www.iknowmymusic.co.uk/images/albumcovers/album_11a.jpg

To whit, at the end of my tether, I finished up going as this:

http://www.phespirit.info/pictures/heroes/images/p010_image_1.jpg

What fun we had. I met a Laurie Anderson, a Screamadelica and two Adam Ants, oh and a David Sylvian, and a Garbage and even a Dickon from Fosca (especially odd since actual members of Fosca were actually there too).

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 2 February 2004 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

This would be spectacular, too, but dangerous:

Well, you may be right. to be honest, the hippo came first - I found a furry (!) hippo bag for a fiver and just had to have it - it then occurred to me that a. I could easily wear it round my neck, b. the party hostess would really like it as a present, and c. there must be an album cover with a hippo on it...bingo!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 2 February 2004 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Drat. I had a really good costume idea and everything.

Shame that I utterly forgot about it for the entire of Saturday and had a super time playing Scrabble and eating chicken kievs til my eyes bulged innit.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 2 February 2004 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

So you didn't go as Tarkus? I wanted to hear about that.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 2 February 2004 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sorry!!

I was going to go as Searching for the Young Soul Rebels, ie dress in green and carry a suitcase. For some reason I was convinced I should have had a flat cap too.
