You can now literally spin your mp3s....

I'm a little suspect as to the performance of this thing, and I'm sure there are some side effects that still gives spinning cut vinyl the edge, but supposing this little magic box really takes off and is made somewhat affordable to consumers, do you think this might have a detrimental effect to dance record labels and record stores? Or do you think they will help them?

Discuss.

(Sorry if this is old news to some of you here.)

Hasn't Richie Hawtin made his new album DE9 using this technology?. I can't see it being any worse than 'DJs' who use CDs instead of 12" vinyl. The end result is the main thing and the skills of the person using the hardware. Any one heard DE9...comment?....

Or, you can burn it to a CD or write it to a Zip disk and spin it around on your finger. You won't be able to listen to it, though. (Sorry, I just had to add that.)

What other interfaces are there for digital DJs. scuse my lack of interest in mixing vinyl, but I've always fancied it myself and imagined that there's kit out there with little spinny wheel things to allow you to cue and match etc

I think it's great. It's just a different tool, you will still need skill to use it and dare I say this, practice to be any good. I doubt if it will sound like proper scratching but again so what, it will sound different thats all. Incidently analogue x do a similar piece of software which you can download for free at www.hitsquad.com. I t works solely with mono wavs but is really good at doing odd things to otherwise boring samples.

dont think it wil kill vinyl/dance industry. just.....mp3's....i dont believe the hype.

i thinjk lots of people like being able to 'see' the music on a record as well, aespecially when you are mixing: breakdowns etc etc
