What a beautiful man. I am in tears right now. This is fucking terrible. We still have Roscoe and Don and Joseph, god bless them. All my thoughts go out to them.
I saw Malachi just a month ago, at Fred's place. The usual Thursday night gig he started up, with Vincent Davis & Hanna Jon. I recall eagerly shaking Malachi's hand as he made his way toward the door - I'd certainly done it before, but, gosh, anytime I saw this legend in person I felt privileged and awed. His worth ethic was unbelievable.
I don't know what Mr. Favors succumbed to, and I don't care; to the bitter end, every time I saw Favors play, he was amazing, he put his entire body into it, he really did his best to make every gig an event. It didn't matter if only 10 people showed up. Malachi was there falling in love with his bass again and again and it was an absolute pleasure to witness.

I mean, it's weird; in my life I've had the pleasure of meeting every member of the AEoC. But Malachi was BY FAR the coolest, nicest person you ever could meet. He cared so much about the young kids, about where the AACM was going, the South Side of Chicago, blah blah blah.... The guy was beautiful and this a HUGE loss.

ha... and wouldn't you know it, I actually spelled his name wrong on his memorial thread. It's of course, "Maghostut".

I've been working on a piece on the AEoC for
Jazziz. He was the only one I didn't get a chance to interview. Shit.
