Is it just me, or is the new Anastacia single actually tremendous?

She was crap. She has a new single called "Left Outside Alone", and it is decidedly not crap. In fact, it's amazing. So go find it, get it and talk about it's surprising genius here.

Of course, that should be "its surprising genius". No, really, I'm serious. The words "Anastacia" and "amazing" will never be used together again truthfully without some choice negation.

You're only flippantly suggesting that this is a stealth marketing thread, right? Sarcasm little tricky over the interweb etc.

Bloody hell, the song is quite emphatically amazing. Starts off with Anastacia sounding EXACTLY LIKE Kate Bush, then the power guitar chords lifted from "Bring Me To Life" come in, then it becomes this monster soft rock megapowerballad which reminds me a lot of Shakira in sheer bonkers genius. There is a whispered religious guilt interlude which sounds like "It's A Sin"-meets-Alanis Morissette. Anastacia sounds more like a drag queen than ever, she really rasps out some of those lines.

Co-written by Dallas Austin and Glen Ballard which explains most of the above.

ten years pass...

So I've heard this song being played three times in the last fortnight on the radio in Naples, and I was wondering if there was any particular reason that the Italians are hot for Anastacia? Also just wanted to note what a fucking kickass song this is and that even though she did achieved relativey else of note, this should be enough of a legacy for anybody. Evanescence / New Killer Star / massive chorus is a v. odd and enjoyable combination

Left Outside Alone is apparently the 29th biggest-selling single in the history of the Italian charts. Evanescence's Bring Me To Life is 31st. They're not a million miles away from sounding like Lacuna Coil - probably Italy's biggest rock export of the last 20 years (though that's not saying much).
